    started looking ahead of child’s birthday coming up; all alternatives I’ve seen so far seem to have significant flaws.

    Any recommendations for something that plays music, isn’t a faff to download stuff from a Mac and fits into a pocket easily ? (Smaller than a tablet)

    Had enough of my iPod nano and gone back to a Sansa clip.

    As above, just got a Sansa clip thing. Cheap, easy to load with music, small. What else do you need?

    Me and the family share a spotify premium account on various devices. Easy to discover new music, can download music for offline playing, easy to share and make playlists For parties, car journeys. Grew tired of owning music, faffing about transfering it between this and that.
