I know a few folk on here pull apart their external bbs and wang in cheapy bearings but any destructions on how to do it and which bearings? Had a look on the search function and can't find the post im after, maybe it was on mtbr?
was thinking maybe buy some phil wood grease from sideays to pack it with? maybe should just buy another deore bb from crc

enduro do good bearings, with a rubber seal that is meant to be better than the standard plastic cover thing. about 25 quid from memory.

Did mine a few months back, easy, I used the enduro bearings tho that omit the shmano plastic 'top hat' spacer.
are they a proper upgrade do you think? given that a new deore will cost 16 notes...

Do Raceface X-type bottom brackets use the same size bearings as Shimano?
I'm not sure about the durability of the new shimano bb's but I remember they were crap. The enduro bearings are really good.

If you go with Enduro get the standard Enduros not the Max, Max are full complement which isn't really suitable but loads of people think it's an upgrade and some sell it as such.
Any old bearings will do, can't recall the correct size, is it 6805? SKF do a 2RS that fits but be warned it comes undergreased for bike use so you really need to open it and grease it- it's got a half fill for less exposed use. Or, you could buy a load of cheap ones off Ebay and just replace them more often.
XT BBS can be had for cheap though, you don't save a huge amount compared to the cost of decent bearings and they last pretty well in my experience.
yeah i know what you mean about just buyin new bbs but i think ill give either enduro or flea bay bearings (prob put some phil wood gunk in) a punt from the point of view of having a tinker with stuff and also trying not to just throw stuff away
tommytowtruck yes, RF take the same bearings as shimano (and need replacing more, their standard max compliment jobs are atrocious).
