   Garmin Forerunner 405CX going for a ridiculous £121.80 delivered on Amazon

   a proper amazon product, not a dodgy amazon retailer either.

   An rrp of over £300 and even eBay sellers dont get below £140ish.

   Ordered one for Mrs S to replace a dead forerunner 305. Not a navigation tool but a good multisport training device. Works with the footpod and bike cadence thingummy as well as the HRM band and the ANT stick.

   Just had notification of order dispatched, so hopefully will arrive early next week.

   Price seems to have risen a little on this, but am considering buying one.

   I'm not a runner though, are they good for bike use? Primarily interested in a reliable GPS to track my routes and interested in trying out the HRM functionality.

   Nice and user-friendly for gadgetphobes?

   no, really not a nav tool at all although it can be used to record routes.

   You may find a nav one that's compatible with the garmin HRM chest band though. Check functionality on their site.

   Actually I don't want it for navigation, my smartphone allegedly does that but is rubbish at picking up a GPS signal. The other day I got home from a 20 mile ride and it was still searching.

   More interested in a reliable way of recording routes/distances and the wristwatch style appeals to me as I currently have to get my phone out of my pocket if I want to check the time.

   according to Mrs S the GPS chip in it is much better at reception than her old 305 forerunner.

   Just for a laugh ive just exported a *.gpx file from garmin training centre and imported it into endomondo via their website upload and it works a treat.

   If using predominately on the bike, and wanting to be done on the cheap, I would suggest a Forerunner 305. Bigger screen and all functions done via buttons.

   The 405 is nice, but screen is smaller and menu navigation is done through a touch bezel.

   Edit: Damn. Just seen the 305 is going for stupid money for some reason. They were £90 before Xmas.

   can only recommend the 305 if theyve fixed the battery contyact corrosion problem. Had the original one replaced with a refurb for an additional £90 and then that died this year, so gone for a different model.

    I doubt they will fix that as it's an outgoing model. Probably why the price has gone up, as it's limited stock being sold by smaller retailers.

    It's a shame the Edge 200 doesn't have HRM capabilities, as would recommend that. The Edge 500 can be had for £136 though, and a HRM strap picked up at a later date for about £30-40.

    The bottom line is, I don't think the 405cx is a good option if predominately used on a bike.

    as a nav tool Id agree, but as a multisport training tool its not so bad, even on your wrist on the bike. It will work with the cadence thingy too, and I think there's a bar mount for it.
