Baby due next week … Will the Mrs think its too early if I get one and stash it in the shed?! 🙂

stox, wait and buy a isla one. way more expensive but they are stunning.

my boy had the wooden lidl one and tore around the village onb it for years. utterly brilliant things. and if i had known then how great they are no question i would have paid the extra and bought an isla one which are truly superb.

Isla was first option … If it’s really worth the extra I’ll keep an eye on
    the classifieds.
I’m hardly in a rush for one!

Of course it’s worth the extra… 3 year olds hate having the wrong brand names on their bikes!

£17.99 (IIRC) for the wooden Lidl balance bike vs £130 for the Islabikes.

The wooden Lidl balance bikes are brilliant and for once I couldn’t justify splashing the extra. Both my kids used them indoors and out.

I hate no idea how people do justify it without kidding themselves.

So lidl have done a wooden balance bike in the past that’s a better bike than this current model BUT neither are as good as an Isla …. !

I think I’ll just wait until nearer the time 🙂

Forget the islabikes one and check out this beauty

My 3 year old daughter has reached the limitations of and nearly worn out her kidimoto kurve playing on the bmx track and I’m in a dilemma whether I should buy her one of the above commencal’s. she was genuinely upset at the weekend when she couldn’t do bar spins after watching Danny Macaskill on Youtube She has a specialised hotrock which she uses a lot but prefers her balance bike.

I brought my 3 year old one of the B twin Decathlon balance bikes for Christmas last year. Its been fantastic and never put a foot wrong despite being dropped, stepped on, ridden through puddles / mud / berms, taken on blue routes in Fineshade and just generally abused.
I don’t understand quite why you’d spend more than necessary? Is the Isla 4 times the bike despite costing 4 time the price? To a 2/3 year old I doubt it…

    £130 for a balance bike?

I would rather spend £30 and donate the other £100 to a childrens charity.

Bought a blue Lidl balance bike as above for daughter no 1.

She loved it, now daughter no 2 loves it, £25 for hours of fun.

For the price of a takeaway, you can’t go wrong!

You only spent £130 on the Isla? Jesus! You lot are amateurs! No Chris King headset and Ti-railed saddle? How frightful! I only hope you’ll be graceful enough to pay for the counselling in later life without question! 🙄

Yawn. A nice, useful PSA turns into yet another Islabike bashing?! If you don’t want to buy one don’t buy it.

FTR we’ve had two Rothans, my two are too close together to have been able to pass them on so when the eldest finally let me sell his on I got 80% of my money back thanks to the more recent price hikes. 18 months of ownership cost £20.

YMMV of course and I don’t expect to get 80% back on the second one.

Had you temporarily forgotten where you were? The only thing I’m surprised at is that nobody has managed to turn it into a wheel size debate 😀

Just had a quick look on ebay…the next finishing auction for a Rothan tomorrow evening is already at £77, so it seems you get a fair chunk of your money back on them (if you’re prepared for ebay hassles etc.).

    I believe they’re 27.5mm.

DD – there’s usually one or two on here if you want to avoid ebay. Our second one will be on here (not for a few months though).

Oh, I don’t want one. I shall be making him a wooden one. 🙂

Yep both of mine too. I might see if I can find them a little saddle bag each, or perhaps a niche framebag (won’t work on Rothan though). Beerbabe to the forum!

If the Islabike one is so good how come it doesn’t have a basket, mudguards or even a bell??!! 😯

    tonyd & Jamie: What’s a Google alert? ❓
That would be a really nice challenge for me to make in used inner tube and there would be no obligation to buy.
