Anyone got a view on what is a decent cheap introduction into power meters?

As above, second hand wired powertap from ebay is your best bet.

I do use mine on road interval sessions but I have to go to a specific section of open not too hilly road to do it. I also used to use it (to great effect) on long base rides to ensure a four hour ride was four hours of actual base training and nothing else, but that was more of a chore.

I can’t stand turbo’s so that’s out to begin with! I’d rather catch hypothermia than spend 30min on a turbo.

Just ordered “trainng and raceing with a power meter” for curiosity’s sake, but first things first, I’m carrying and early noughties DH bike arround with me (about 20kg/44lb) in extra weight that will have more of an impact than anything else so I’ve bought raceing weight too!
