After a bad experience (it was sent in a box and returned just wrapped in cardboard and therefore damaged on the way back – they refuse to take responsibility…)sending off a frame to be powdercoated with a specific colour (RAL 6027) I now need to repeat the process but with someone who is going to do a good job, nice even gloss finish, and who will pack it adequately for the return trip. Any recommendations? Most powdercoaters will say they can get any colour, but you'll have to buy a box (~£100) which doesn't make it economical for one frame. I'm prepared to pay a reasonable price for someone who will do a good job!

I'm in Hertfordshire, but I'm happy to ship it somewhere if they are going to do a good job and will take care in packing it and shipping it back. It's a Singular Peregrine frame. This is for a customer who wants that colour, so I assume he doesn't want a Bianchi for whatever reason – but likes the colour 😉

Windridge coatings have a good reputation but are not cheap.

it is a great colour, to be fair. we've just painted our hall similar, though it's nearer to a RAL 6021, really.

that bianchi colour would look lovely on a singular, good choice by your customer!

Loads of companies do Powder coating but the problem is trying to find one that doesn't give an orange peal effect. Triple S offer a smooth finish

Strangely a pic of my Swift this weekend came out with it looking like it was painted in Celeste.

It has to be powdercoat, rather than enammel does it?

Armourtex, Hackney – great service loads of colours inc clear / sparkle coats top coats and they super mega wrap everything – even if you are just collecting from the workshop.

I used these guys, no idea if they do shipping but stuff picked up from the workshop gets covered in bubblewrap (which the owner took off, let me inspect the frame then wrapped it up fresh again for me to take away!).

Cost £50 including solvent to remove all traces of the old paint (nitromors isn't great on water based paint, especialy if decals are involved) masking off every concievable thread/hole/face on the frame, priming it and coating it.

They dont do fancy finishes though, no metalics or anything like that, but the quality of what they do is top notch.

They have a sample room with more colours than you could ever want, no extra charge for a one off bike frame.

    hi sam,

yer must get my swift over to them for a color change after getting that decal and head badge from you…..

note that some colors seem to need a clear coat and some do not.

    They are very helpful.
