Looking for the knowledge of the STW massive…

My girlfriend and I may be heading to the south of France in the summer and then on to Lake Garda, Switzerland and Austria. We would like to do some riding along the way-nothing crazy but lots of flowing singletrack would be nice. Dont mind riding up to get a good down but soem uplifts woudl be good!

Basically looking for advice on how to do it-we dont want to spend a whole week at any particular place as most of the holiday/guiding companies seem to specialise in but more likely looking at 2/3 days riding in each location. Looking at Morzine/Les gets/Lake Garda/Tyrol but totally open to suggestions?

Is it easy to just turn up and ride waymarked routes or is a guide essential? Any must do routes? Anyone done a similar trip?

    Any advice apreciated!

    Will,

Drop us a mail or pop over to UpandDownhill.com, as we are happy to take people for 2/3 days. Normally we take people for a week, but if people want something different then no worries.

For Austria the marked routes tend to be aimed at family valley routes or steep 'fire road' climbs for the lycra crowd. One of the benefits of a guide is to figure out the type of riding you want and match it as best as possible.

Ditto Keith, we could sort you out with 2 or 3 days accommodation and guiding if you want. The White Room

    Flowing singletrack a speciality… 😀

In Morzine/Les Gets there's plenty of good riding to keep you occupied for 2/3 days without needing a guide.

Morzine is perfect. Waymarked trails and off-piste, free maps, day lift passes, excellent riding and easily enough for a week so you certainly wont be bored in a few days.

Give Lucy & Phil a shout @ bikeverbier. If they are not too busy they may be able to accomodate.

Lake Garda and the Karavenke Alps of northern Slovenia, on the Austrian border, are two of our busiest European destinations and we have great guides based in both locations. No problem to put together a 2 or 3 day guiding programme for you in each, provided that the dates are not already booked up. If it's of interest then just email me direct and I'll get a look when i'm back to work on Tuesday.
    Cheers
