…..some of the parts have been removed.
IMG_0138 by Required Listening, on FlickrTypical masters of understatement.
Over the weekend I posted a ’Stolen’ thread after some scrotes stole all our bikes on Friday night. It would appear that they had a real go at breaking the locks with a variety of tools, failing to defeat the Abus but managing to do this in the process.
IMG_0140 by Required Listening, on FlickrAll three have been stripped and generally trashed, probably by being dragged around attached to a flippin’ heavy bar. I’m trying to be philosophical but I don’t mind admitting I have a big grey cloud over me at the mo’
The Police now consider the matter resolved and won’t be taking any further action, which isn’t massively surprising as I guess somewhere a box has been ticked.
Thanks for taking it easy on the MTFU’s and especially thanks to Stu at the Dales Mountainbike Centre, I’ll be in touch.
James.
LimboJimboFull MemberProbably not worth it TBH. What the photo doesn’t show is all the other dents and gouges. You can just about see some on the down tube logo. Prob a write off. 🙁
DezBFree MemberThat’s crap. Feel for you mate.
Hope the scrotes die a slow and painful death.

What did you expect? The scrotes committed theft/burglary while also causing damage … they got away and are still at large, no doubt making a few quid by shifting your stuff on in-between signing on at the job centre.
And we’re the ones picking up the tab for their “lifestyle” AND the coppers who have to “sort out” this kind of shit.
I think we can see who the mugs are in this game.
Sorry mate – that’s just shit.
WozzaFree MemberGutted for you mate. That’s tragic.
The Police now consider the matter resolved and won’t be taking any further action,
Outrageous, that’s not even close to resolved.
LimboJimboFull MemberWhat did you expect?
Not really a criticism of the Police, in the grand scheme of human effluent they have to wade through every day, I dare say it’s not high on anyone’s priority list. It just frustrates me that so long as you don’t get caught in the act, you will almost certainly get away with this type of crime, which in turn makes more of us likely to be victims of it. I don’t have any answers, it just saddens me a little. As for who the mugs are, I wouldn’t swap any aspect of their lives for mine.

That’s far too measured and objective for STW.
I really feel for you. That must be gutting. Have you got it covered on insurance?
allthepiesFree MemberI wouldn’t swap any aspect of their lives for mine.
apart from the ability to perform wheelies and manuals from the age of three 🙂
TreksterFull MemberA RED and white Basso make racing bike worth £1000 was stolen from the communal hallway at flats in English Street in Dumfries at the weekend.
6mnths old news^^^^^^
Belonged to LBS girl and was found last week locally. Young guy out on the town, had a sherry too many and thought he would get home quicker by bike. Got up in the morning, wondered where bike had come from, panicked, stuffed it in shed and forgot about it for 6mths 🙄 That is his story anyway. He is not one of lifes baddies apparently and it was just a drink fuelled moment of daftness that has landed him in court 😕muppetWranglerFree MemberHow does this work with your insurance?
I had a car recovered about a week prior to the insurance paying out on the theft and because I’d got it back the insurance company decided that there was nothing to pay. I had to spend about £1,500 on repairs to the car to get it back into the condition it was in before it was stolen.
I realise cars and bikes will have different terms which is why I was wondering.
LimboJimboFull MemberYup, all insured through M&S who have referred it to their specialists. I’m waiting for them to call now to see if they can source replacements, if not I’ll get a cash settlement.
LOL at allthepies. 😆
spacemonkeyFull MemberI had my tongue firmly in my cheek LimboJimbo because I’m proper pissed off at the amount of times people get away with this shit.
Like you say, the police have “better” things to do and no doubt a box was ticked somewhere. And yes, I too wouldn’t swap anything of their lives for mine.
Yet I hate the fact that these low-lives often have so little to lose that they fear no punishment and no-“one”. Hence they just keep on going until one day they might just become unstuck.
I had a couple of cars stolen (one of which was stripped) a few years back, so I know where you’re coming from. Scum.
HoratioHufnagelFree MemberWhich Abus lock held up to the abuse out of interest?
Sorry to hear about your bikes. I had one nicked years ago and saw someone riding it but he got away. Still bugs me to this day!

I guess it’s because so little of the bikes were recovered really. If your car had just been recovered as a shell, the insurance co. would have declared a total loss and paid out.
The car insurance model seems to be built around only paying out if absolutely necessary. Thankfully home insurance still works on the basis of new for old in the most part.
Either way, I’m sorry to hear about your bad luck.
binnersFull MemberI really feel for you fella. That’s awful. People are bemoaning the fact that they never seem to get caught. Let me tell you, in the event that they do get caught, that’s when our legal system gets involved, and that’s when things start to go seriously haywire.
My bike was stolen, as a nice little bonus, while the local scrotes were burgling our offices. They were caught red-handed when they came back to repeat the operation 3 weeks later. They were all ‘well-known to the police’. In fact we were informed by the police that all these lads did was sign on (obviously), stay in bed til lunch, then ‘work’ the same area every day. Burgling flats and offices and nicking everything not nailed down.
When it went to court they pleaded guilty (no choice really with CCTV, fingerprint & DNA evidence). They also asked for christ-only-knows how many other offenses to be taken into a consideration. Nobodies nicked stuff was ever returned. They all had criminal records as long as your arm.
They were sentenced to 2 months each. So…. out in 4 weeks then? To return to exactly what they were doing before. A crime-wave in their own right.
The copper i spoke to was just despairing. Said he didn’t know why they even bothered investigating stuff and putting the evidence before a court.
Something needs to change big-style in this country. Unfortunately the liklihood is that that will mean even less custodial sentences. Which gives these people a great big green light to carry on making masses of peoples lives a misery with even less chance of any pesky interruptions of any type by the authorities
I can’t even be bothered being mad about it. Its just utterly depressing
LimboJimboFull MemberWhich Abus lock held up to the abuse out of interest?
Granit plus 51. I’ll post some pics when I get a chance. There’s not much left of the housing but it doesn’t look like they came close to breaking it in an assault brutal enough to bend my frame. I suppose it is quite satisfying to know they were ultimately beaten.
muppetWranglerFree MemberEither way, I’m sorry to hear about your bad luck.
Well and truly over it, It was years ago, the funny part of the car theft story was that it was used as a getaway car when the thieves stole an exotic parrot from one of the neighbours houses. It’s a whole world of weird out there.
LimboJimboFull MemberI’d hate to get a call from the Police to say…
We’ve recovered your parrot, but some of the parts have been removed. 😯
crispedwheelFree MemberLimbojimbo – sorry to hear about this. Do you think the on-one is still rideable with that dent in the TT? I know a couple of people who have had dents there (on the side, rather than top, of the TT) and ridden them afterwards without problems. Depends i guess where the other dents and gouges are. Weird that you got all three wheelsets back though – are they all trashed too?
Bike thieves = [swear filter avoidance]FOGFull MemberYep I don’t know what we can realistically do about such scrotes. In my former life as a teacher I had a lot to do with such types. I was chatting to an eleven yr old and he asked me if I had ever been banged up. When I said no, his amazement was palpable. ‘WHAT, NEVER?’
He just couldn’t imagine reaching adulthood without spending time inside. How you break into this cycle of shite, I don’t know, but handing out 2mths sentences for many multiple robberies probably won’t do any good either.LimboJimboFull MemberThe wheels had a cable threaded through them which was attached to the Abus. What is a bit strange was that they left the through axle in the front wheel, so look out on ebay for a DT Swiss XMC130 with no axle and a v.short steerer (Sorry- Downhil swiss Suspenshin fork with carbon. Sellin cos I am goin back too rigid)
Zulu-ElevenFree MemberSeeing as Supermarkets now go for civil recovery, I wonder if thats the way forward –
ie.. you’ve been prosecuted for the crime/admitted it and been let off with a caution, but the insurance company sues you for reimbursement of the value of the goods they’ve paid out for and their costs.
HoratioHufnagelFree Membernot much use if they don’t have any money unfortunately.
