Hoping to get a trip up to do a few of the 7stanes, Ae, Kirroughtree and Mabie, at end of August. Last time we went up stayed at the Criffel Inn (great place highly recommended), but just phoned up and unsurprisingly it’s full, bugger.
Any other recommendations for the area?

A couple of years ago we stayed in a pub/hotel on the main road about 2 miles south of Mabie start. Can't remember the name, but they were relatively bike friendly and generally decent folk. Others on here will know it ... otherwise do a googlemap.

We're off that way next week for 8 days :). We're staying s/c on a farm near Ringford then over to Inners for 1 night. can't wait...
afraid yu can get closer sqwubbsy -- look up marthrown of mabie the hostel in the middle of the forest. £10 per night, could stay in the mud hut if it has been rebuilt
Loads of great B&Bs round that way.

Nether Barr is very good if you want self catering with a restaurant near Newton Stewart
Greenhead Lodge is nice and fairly reasonable - sauna after biking is sweet!
Haribo, I stand corrected. I forgot about Marthrown.
I stayed at the round house they had at Marthrown a few years ago before it burned down. Very eco-friendly with the composting toilet and urinal.
A very good alternative.
Usually do the D&G Stanes as a day trip but have stayed down there twice recently on a couple of midweek solo trips. Being on my own I was after hostels rather than B&B/hotel. Urr Lodge hostel just outside Dalbeattie was fine and well placed for the Stanes around Dumfries. For Kirroughtree and Glentrool Minigaff SYHA in Newton Stewart was fine too. I found Urr Lodge on 7stanes.com, which has quite a few accommodation listings.
