Probably best asked on avforums, but I can’t work out the best place to post this there.

I have a PS3 plugged into a Pioneer VSX-520 via HDMI. The amp is plugged into the TV (Samsung 6 series LED) through HDMI too.

Unfortunately the sound doesn’t work this way and won’t come out of the surround speakers (though these work fine with TV through the PVR etc). I have to change the amp settings to “HDMI through” so I only get sound from the TV speakers.

I’ve looked at the PS3 setup, and checked the audio output is HDMI.

Anyone have experience of this or know what the problem might be?

Have you set the PS3 to O/P in 5.1?

I could be way off track here, but I seem to remember something about the PS3 not outputting 5.1 through HDMI – can you do it via optical?

Have a look for settings here

Yeah, I wasn’t 100% correct, but if you Google PS3 not outputting Dolby Digital, you will see various threads about sound output on Blu-Ray

as above, select HDMI output on the PS3, as well as the audible selection to suit your amp as well (Dolby Digital 5.1 if your amp supports it for best sound)
