I have seen a few not very good ones, and was going to SpaceClinics in Edinburgh but looking for someone more local. I already do a lot of knee specific stretches etc, but need a bit of help as I've been off the bike and all forms of excercise for 6 weeks due a foot op.

    Cheers

I was just about to suggest it to be honest, but they won't be a "knee expert" but you can have a free walk-in assessment.

BTW It's not dig at Goan it was from another thread about physio's.

    been there, done that, pish……

My opinion only, however I have had knee problems for best part of 10 yrs and have seen enough physio's to know ! having had surgery a few times and spoken at length with the surgeons and the guys at Space I know what I need, just trying to find it…

EDIT – that sounds a bit like I am some kinda high horse – not intended -)

Thanks for that Bob – pretty local to me and I know someone who got good results with a back problem there….dunno how much they have knee specialism though…

    keep 'em coming -)

🙂 ok, no probs, working well for my back issues so figured it was worth the option. If you know what you need, surely you can just do the exercises/stretches yourself?

coffeeking – thanks. You are right in that a lot of the stuff I can do myself, using tailored programmes I have been given in the past, stretches, swiss ball etc, but a bit of hands on stuff with a physio who knows his/her stuff is unbeatable IMO. If I can't find somebody local I'll go back to Space – it's just a bit of a pain going to Haymarket for it…

How about the Sports Injury Clinic at Hampden – I've been there twice for a recurring knee ligament problem and they've been very helpful on both occasions.

ditch_jockey – I had wondered about them – I did go a few yrs ago and think I got the trainee or something !! is there a specific person you could reccomend as i am sure they must have a few knee experts ?

    IainC,

I was suggested to go to a place in the west end, on Park Road, across from the Doublet, called the Park Practice.

I went due to back problems, and saw an American woman called Dawn after a recommendation from a friend of mine who is a personal trainer.

Anyway, after only one visit, I've never had an issue with my back since. It's not knees, I know, but my pain was related to an imbalance in knee strength caused by a bicycle/bus interaction two decades previous.

Actually, it's a chiropractor, so it may well be unsuited for your needs, but there is a connection (back-bone, hip-bone, knee-bone and all that!). However, you seem like a good guy, even if you have ridden my bike. 😀
    Hope you find some relief.

As was predicted above I would recommend going to the NHS, especially for knees and especially for knees in Glasgow.

The best physio for knees i know is a guy called Jim O'Donohue and unless you play rugby at a very high standard or you go via the NHS you wont be able to see him.

Goan, thanks for that. The worry I have is that if I go to my GP and get to eventually see a physio will I have any likliehood of seeing someone who is specialist in my problem ? I have always though, possibly wrongly, that going to someone in private practice and paying for it would get me to the right person ?

I think you can bypass the GP in Glasgow and go for the self-referal option, but i'm not entirely sure.

A lot of physios do both private and NHS work, so quite often you'd pay for the privilege of seeing the same person you'd see for free on the NHS.

Without exception out of the physios that I know the best ones do their main work for the NHS and do their private stuff for elite level sports teams as they prefer to concentrate on fixing people rather than trying to run a business.

What exactly is the problem with your knees?

Goan – fundamental problem is hypermobility. I could go on and bore the forum with the detail, which I'd be more happy to mail you with..I've had 2 arthroscopies on the left and one on the right and still loads of pain both sides as my knees are just too 'loose', despite daily regime of excercise/stretching etc. Riding and swimming helps keep it under control, unfortunately at the moment I have been off the bike for 6 weeks due a toe fusion, and knees now more sore than recovering toe -(

If you want to drop me your email address I can give you more info…..I am sure there is local..ish physio that can assist, I just need to find the right one…. (as they say 😛 )
