What should be in it and should beans ever be included?

Of course beans...

What else? Tomatoes? They make the consistency of the mopping up juice too runny for my liking.

Oh, and black pud too (as well as the obvious components)

Beans can have a place, but use a sausage as a breakwater, if I want to mix it with the egg I want it to be my decision.

The best fried breakfast I ever had was at Gary Willmots wedding:

Bacon, smoked
Sausage
Egg
Tomato
Field Mushroom
Fried slice
Black pudding
Toast

Black pudding would have to be Stornaway black pudding. English black pudding tastes like it should be applied to a wound. Beans, no, sorry.

You can't have both beans and egg, it has to be one or the other.
Also have to have haggis in there too.

Don't be ridiculous.
Black Pudding comes from Lancashire.

If you say you're sorry and promise not to do it again, we'll say no more about it.

Oh no disaster forgot the mushrooms. Tomorrows breaksfast is (venison and bacon - get me) sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes and branston beens.

Sausages
Bacon
Eggs, 1 or 2 fried but runny, and a good [s]spoon[/s] ladle full of scrambled.
Hash browns
Mushrooms
Black pudding
Going to go out on a limb here and say spaghetti hoops instead of beans. I don't like beans, but want the tomato sauce.
Slice of white toast
Slice of white fried bread
Bucket of strong milky tea.
Enough for seconds

Can't have beans and egg? They're totally different food groups, absolutely complementary to each other. You have to have beans and egg, it's not a proper fry up without.

Only real question is whether to include toast as the healthy option,or fried bread for the living life on the edge crowd.

Poached eggs instead of fried, that's gotta be controversial? I like it.

The cassoulet at the Cafe Medina in Vancouver is *the* best breakfast I have ever had.

Re eggs and beans - absolutely love a runny yoke slowly mixing with the tomato sauce of the beans, mopped up with buttery bread.

Bacon
Egg
Sausage
Fried slice
Toast with butter
Tomato
Mushroom (whole)

everything fried (apart from the toast), not grilled, it's a fry-up, not a grill-up

maybe black pudding if I'm on holiday
definitely no beans
no bubble, no squeak
no sauce

and of course a mug of tea

And above all else, it will taste so much better if it is cooked for you and you don't have to do the washing up afterwards.

Couldn't agree more. Greasy spoon FTW.

Oh, and not enough fry-ups have fried bread anymore. This needs to change.

No to hash browns
No to black pudding
Beans or tomatoes, not both if tinned
Mug of tea, no to coffee. thats the rules.

Just to add, i had some cracking breakfasts in Oz, one plate even came with a fresh Strawberry on it and i did'nt even mark them down for it!

Beans yes, but they need to have been cooked to within an inch of their life, so when you spoon them onto the plate they don't move.

Ah I feel better now...

This morning I'm not having beans but considering a sourdough egg in a basket with black pudding on top. Could be a new classic or a burnt mess...

What are you going to have mid morning?

Second breakfasts are where it's at when bike touring. This was my selection du jour when I rolled into Bay City Oregon.

Cheese and bacon omlette with hash browns and coffee. American small town diners do this so well.

Tomato has completely the wrong texture to be a part of the 'perfect' fry up. Big question is how to prepare the eggs, creamy smooth and scrambled, poached or fried? Have a say I love my version of scrambled but frankly they all work, would probably say poached for the perfect dish. Something my old man introduced me to is white pudding, nicely crisped on the edges and very dry, would have a have a place...

So, IMO...

Poached eggs (2)
Fried bread (2 halves)
Bacon (2)
White pudding (4 or 5 one inch sections)
Button Mushrooms (cut into quarters, cooked fast on a high heat in butter with lots of black pepper)
Small portion of beans
Large mug of strong breakfast tea

No ketchup... Eggy bread a nice alternative to fried bread or toast.

This was the breakfast of choice, on the go when off to sailing events.. It rarely gets the praise it deserves.

Chips or sautéed potatoes in lieu of hash browns.

Black pudding (and oh how I miss it down here in Oz 🙁 ) (And for the geographically challenged mildly myopic Scotsman, it's from Lancashire. you can keep your sheep's stomach malarkey to yourself)

To the person who didn't like beans and egg, frankly, such views constitute a debilitating illness and you should probably see a doctor.

It is essential that baked beans, at all times contain tabasco sauce, or similar.
