A drum kit is out of the question for now, but I’m looking for something to play away on with my hands. Flamenco style, as if to play along with Rodrigo y Gabriela.

    What drum for?

Rather than get the usual mini bongo’s as everyone else have you thought about the Bodhran?, i much prefer the sound and the action is more natural, to me anyway……

Nah, it’s simple really. A box that you sit on and play. Top third has “snares” in to make a more snare drum like sound, the rest is more like a kick drum. Play the kick parts with right hand, snare parts with left hand.
like the guy sat on his suitcase at the railway station in the Richmond Sausages advert

a good cajon player can also use feet for extra hits and damping.

My son is a drummer, and one of the Saudi students that used to live with us came to visit and gave my son a darabuka.

Great sounds, but looks quite hard to master.

Not a drummer, but I love my youngest son’s cajon.

Got a kit from schlagwerk to make myself one.

Mine’s an LP Aspire which IIRC was just under £70 but prices seem to have gone up since I bought it in 2010

    Cajon all the way..

I would say that it’s worth spending a few extra quid.. The difference between the really cheap ones and those a little higher up the price scale is night and day for sound..

Heidi Jubert makes a great teacher for a number of reasons.. 🙂

Not really flamenco (you can get specific Flae co cajons) but I have a set of these:

If you’re after a more ‘general percussion’ vibe.
