For general trail riding on 120/100mm full sus.

I bought a set of these in 24H flavour to shed some weight on my C456. They were dead cheap from Superstar so I thought I’d try them out but didn’t think they’d last more than a few rides.

I am blown away by them, Bearing in mind these are XC rims with only 24 spokes and are on a hardtail which I ride with very little finesse down the local DH tracks, the fact that they still run perfectly true amazes me at the end of each ride. I ride it not all that differently to my 6″ full susser and hit (and often case) some decent size jumps and drops on them and not so much as a wobble, and with the low weight they accelerate like mad!

Edit: I live on the Isle of Wight to put DH tracks into context, I’m not hammering down Fort Bill daily!

Ok ta sounds promising, what hubs did you use?

Superstar’s own Teslas with CX ray spokes. Came in around 1600g, built by Superstar. Nice quick engagement on the hubs too, Superstar are doing 33% off their wheel clearance now so you could pick them up for less than £100 from them

I’m happy with these. No dings in over a year of riding general xc stuff on hardtails. Had to re-true one after a big crash, but all fine since. Easiest rims I’ve had to go tubeless with too.

Yeah not too keen on the tubelessness as I run tubes and it only makes it harder to get tyres on and off.

What hubs and spokes did you go with grannyring? Mine were claimed at 1560g and weighed in at 1630g

Not madly impressed with my pacenti TL28, or the build from superstar.

Now, I ride a HT round Heptonstall, and I did smack the rear wheel “quite” hard of a series of sharp edges, but I was disappointed with the dings I’d managed to inflict, and tubless went down immediately. By comparison, my M819 are utterly bombproof.

spoke tension was all over the place (it was true, dished, and round)

I have the TL28 rims on my HT and they’ve been great, nice wide rim takes a plump 2.35 tyre nicely, Exo/snakeskin/reinforced sidewalls mean less chance chance of pinch flats and dinged rims….nice and light too!

I have TL28s on Switches from SS. The build was fine but I put a big dink in the rear rim after a coupe of months. However the rim was so soft it was really easy to bend it back although still nowhere near perfect. The wheels have been relegated to the HT normally used for family escort duties!

These ones for £97 once I get some forks sorted will give them a try.
