Is it the done thing? Otherwise I’m stuck behind it for 5 miles?

    Overtaking a hurst

Round here a hurst is a small woodland.

    I’d ride through, not around.

He he I love commonly mis-spelled words. I saw an advert on ebay for a mounting bike last week

On topic, maybe if you crawled past at a sensible pace, but all guns blazing, revving the knackers off your car would probably get you some interesting glares from the occupants. Well, all apart from one.

It is a well known law that you are not allowed to overtake anyone who has scored a World Cup final hat-trick

They carried him away in a hearse.

Overtake and give them the bird as you go past for wasting your time.

My Grandad crashed his Taxi into Geoff Hurst’s Jag. True story. The cool thing was, my grandad was an ex-pro himself, so Geoff recognised him and was pretty cool about the whole thing.

My friend went to art school with Damian Hirst

My friend told me he was a right cock. So yeah flick him the V’s

    Oh, hearse!

I did my motorbike test near a busy crematorium. Was told that on my test failing to pass a funeral procession would be a flat out test fail. Would still consider it very rude though.

Say he was a right cock

I’d rather not or I’d have to warn myself.

do you mean hearse? if it’s on a duel carrigeway or 60mph single carrigeway I’d so yes, otherwise, I don’t think it’s the done thing…

Would not overtake a hearse on a single carriageway road in the car no matter what. Have had the misfortune to be in a few hearses in my time and it is much appreciated that people show a bit of respect and accept that their particular journey is not the most important thing in the world, just for a moment

Having said that I’ve overtaken loads on the R1 although I do pull the clutch in and coast past as a mark of respect

He he I love commonly mis-spelled words.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen hearse with that spelling.

Depends on the situation I guess but those in the hearse certainly aren’t thinking about what people in the outside world are doing and neither are those in the following cars.

    Did the OP overtake then?

I mean it’s been an hour since he posted, or is he still in the queue?

BTW, what does the reath say?

Do it! Life goes on. My friend is an undertaker, he’s told me off on a few occasions for overtaking him.

He said I should waste my life crawling along behind the cortege at half the speed limit as a mark of respect!

How the hell can I respect someone who, a) I don’t know, and b) is holding me up while I’m trying to go about my daily work!

It’s in my will that I’m taken to my final resting place as fast as traffic conditions and the rules of the Queen’s highway will allow.

Honestly, pet hate of mine… Up there with cats and floral tributes.

The briefing for the driver of the Sierra 4×4 estate(!) carrying my mother in law’s coffin last week was: “floor it mate, she liked going fast”!
It was hard for the minibus driver to keep up.

Whilst I’m sure you’re more important than most people on the road it’s not about respect for the person, its respect for the occasion.
