Im about to buy a fancy phone
Probably a HTC Hero but whatever…….

The deals Im looking at have 500MB bundled in the monthly payments but Im not sure how much surfage this equals on a phone

At home I use 4-5 Gigs a month including a bit of video like you do *cough*

And if you take it to Europe or the US occasionally which networks have better data charges?
(Ive heard O2 are pretty steep abroad)

500 is a fair chunk, especially if like me, most of the time you're in an area with free (to you) wifi which the phone (if it's decent) will use automatically.

Fine for normal on-handset use (email, mobile browsing, etc).

Marginal if you'll be making use of streaming services, internet radio and the like, away from wifi.

Unlikely to last more than a couple of days if you hook it up to your computer and use it as a 3G modem.

(I didn't realise how much data I put through my work phone that way until someone dropped all our contracts to 500Mb inclusive (from unlimited) without telling anyone).
