Love it... "Come on Boy" says Guy to the bloke that's old enough to be his father!
Posted 3 months ago # -
I enjoyed that!
I wonder if Guy got to keep the bike he built up?Posted 3 months ago # -
Yeah I enjoyed it too, nice to see where your money goes.

Great wee vid. I've never owned an Orange but I like what I saw. Guy Martins fab.
Posted 3 months ago # -
Lovely vid... Great that they took their time too, could have watched a lot more.
The bit about monocoques did make me LOL though. "Orange don't try and baffle you with ******** words like monocoque"... Well except, look at the Orange website description of a Five: "Monocoque construction". Patriot, "monocoque top and down tube". Alpine, "burly monocoque down tube", Mii, "The signature Monocoque down-tube"

Cool vid.
Loving the range of 'persuaders' used in the alignment checking section. British man-in-a-shed engineering at its best.

My mate Ben is in that. The welder who was talking about the 3 stages its checked at.
He said Guy was an absolutely top bloke!!

Just had to scrape the gf off the sofa after she watched that, it combines her two favourite bike related things.
Would love to see a video of the Giant factory as comparison!
Good jazz on the walls.

Proper engineering: blue overalls, jazz mags on the walls, big hammers and Northern accents.
Posted 3 months ago # -
Proper magic that was, loved it.

Erm i would think he got to keep it,& if he had to pay for it it wouldn't hurt Guys pocket in the slightest! ,skint he aint! .

Brilliant ... The new Fred Dibnah!!!!!! Now I want an orange 5
Posted 3 months ago # -
Great video. It is strange how alluring Fives are when there's so many other more complex frames out there. I want a five even more now, black and understated or raw..
Posted 3 months ago # -
Very entertaining - smiled all the way through
Loved my old 5 - been thinking they were daft money, but seeing the workmanship - would have another.
As for Guy ..... want a guy

I'm sure Guy is sponsored my Orange ?
The bike wouldn't cost him a penny
Posted 3 months ago # -
Guy really is not skint !!

He did say that money changed hands when he got his Alpine... But then he told me Orange gave him the downhill bike he was using at fort william. Also said "It looks like it was welded in the dark" though
Wonder if he paid for his Soul for that matter?

Great video.. my only complaint - Guy specs up his black/gold with a 3 x 10 XTR, but then claims "less is more"?
Posted 3 months ago # -
Loved that!!
Being a Halifax lad, one day I will own an Orange...Posted 3 months ago # -
Ah but Guy also said, if you're going to run 1x10 and chain device you should really have a 160 upfront which is fair enough if that's his opinion.
Five pivot placement is also optimised for a 32T ring, hence why they spec triples across the range bar the AM.

So .....frame alignment problems, massive pry bar or gret big hammer will sort it

Finally got round to seeing this, good enjoyable video. Had me tempted by a Five for a few minutes there.
For some reason I always think bikes are going to be built by hardcore cyclists, but the reality is it's an engineering company, and skilled tradesmen are the requirement.Guy Martin's good in front of a camera - I wonder how long before someone manages to tempt him permanently out of being a mechanic.

Great video! I think Guy is noramlly given his bikes by Hope - his most recent being the Apple Green Alpine 160?
I'd imagine he was given the bike - it's only going to give Orange good publicity (not that they need it).
Can't wait to get my Five........Posted 3 months ago # -
But a rather nice Scott...
that's looks nice .what model is it?

So if your rear disc mount top bolt seems a little hard to screw in, that's why!
That's the first time I've ever seen Guy Martin. Just been doing a little reading. It's easy to see why people compare him to Fred Dibnah.
I'd like to see that BBC barge building programme.

Talented motorcyclist.....could have been one of the best around the Isle of Mann, was leading McGuinness one year recently until a penalty or mechanical put him out, been on the podium a few times though.
His truck fitting business is lucrative from what I've heard, he is also sponsored by Dainese leathers...no mean feat, their other high profile rider is Rossi....does some freelance journalism for the motorcycle mags too....and the BBC are trying to turn him into the next Dibnah....being pulled in all sorts of directions but making money hand over fist whilst doing it.
I think he'll pack motorcycles in soon....the IoM is too dangerous for very little return....and the race fans are just starting to turn on him due to his lack of commitment and results....I don't think he's fussed though, he can flit between MTBs, motorcycles, writing and TV and live a life most of us would give our eye teeth for!Posted 3 months ago # -
I can't see him giving it up until he has won a TT.
Great video. Makes me want an orange again. If only they weren't so damm ugly.....
Posted 3 months ago # -
Guy Martin used to work for his Dad's truck fitting business but now he works part time for another company so I don't think that he owns a truck fitting business. The fact that he does the little Irish road races proves his commitment and he is a media magnet. Not exactly a sponsors dream but he will always get loads of publicity. Dianese paid him 100k a year to wear their product at the TT. That and the desire to finally win one will keep him going to the IOM.
If you enjoyed the Orange video then watch TT 3D, a film that was shown at cinemas last year. It's full of Guy Martin being Guy Martin and whether you like him or not, he is very entertaining.Posted 3 months ago # -
nice vid

been thinking they were daft money, but seeing the workmanship
So you didn't watch the video then?Sorry but bending things that are not square is bad engineering not good engineering. The fact you have to pay over the odds for this shows what a bunch of plonkers orange owners are. Especially if this has made you consider buying one. I am a Yorkshire man BTW.
I do have a man crush on Guy though.

If you enjoyed the Orange video then watch TT 3D
second that and you don't need to be into motorbikes to enjoy it!
Good action, good documentary, good portrait!I always wonder whether Guy Martin is actually aware of his quirkiness, charming as it is.

alex222 - I can sort of see your point.
But on the other hand, the fact that it's such basic metalwork is pretty interesting. Every mag loves the five and most owners like it too. The only thing anyone ever has to say bad about it is that it's a single pivot and that it's ugly.
Yet, they're comparing it with fluid-formed, carbon, machined this and that who claim to be the very height of engineering prowess.I'm glad there's a place for Orange. I may even be tempted to ride one again (the last time I rode one was before platform shocks).
