you could get regulated out of existence. The government will not want to lose all that lovely revenue.

personally, I think they should ban cigarettes totally, and give these out on prescription; it’d improve health, save the NHS money and help the poorest (who smoke the most and spend the highest percentage of income on tabs) out during a time of significant economic duress.

    But that won’t happen.

Are they not classed as medical devices? I think the gum/patches are either devices or classed as pharmaceuticals.

    Hmmm… http://www.bmj.com/content/345/bmj.e6417

Well – shop opened on Tuesday, been trading 4 days (we close Thursdays) and all going absolutely fantastic so far.

Getting great feedback from customers and there seems to be a bit of a buzz around town about it – lots of people been waiting for it to open.

Early days so far, but the signs are good – at this rate it will take around a month to return the initial investment, then we are in profit. Happy days!

Loving the odd day when I get to be a shop manager too – get a buzz out of promoting our goods to customers – makes a big change to my normal day to day business. Tuesday was especially great – first day, sat in the shop having the craic in my shorts (stark contrast to Friday at the side of the M60 in full hi-viz in the rain)

I’ve been using them for 8 months. Not sure what to make of it all tbh. A few players I’m aware of have dropped out recently, don’t know why, it’s all fairly new and emerging. A number of big players have got products in the shops (e-lites), but their offer is is a bit poor (nealglover will know what I mean). The good kit, at the moment, has to be discovered on line by users (or emerging local shops). There’s also government/EU legislation hanging over it all, not sure where that will go, but probably along the lines of controlling medicinals ie having licences to produce and/or sell e-liquids maybe. At the moment you could buy any old crap to vape, so there will be control of e-liquids at some point in the near future.

Not my bag but know a few converted ex-smokers and they go bananas for the stuff..
Seems to be a lot of selling online though.. You got a decent presence there?
Good luck mate. Should be a money printer for a while yet till the man starts sticking his nose in!

B.A.Nana – you can buy any old crap indeed, but we don’t buy that!

I agree, legislation will kick in at some point – 3 options as far as I see – ban, tax and/or regulate. We will see – no point worrying about it yet and deal with it when it happens.

    e-lites are crap, so that’s a non-story – as indeed you intimate.

It’s going off big time at the moment – one popping up on every street corner, but we are the first in our immediate area, so hopefully have the market for now. I have a main business, so this is a sideline – hopefully it will lead to bigger things, but nothing lost in the meantime. 2nd shop opening soon hopefully!

surely as people give up smoking (are these not just an aid to that end?) your market will decline, not expand? Or are you just trying to make money by replacing one addiction with another?

Maybe it will decline, but at the moment the market for the product we are selling is growing. I’m not replacing one addiction with another. People are addicted to nicotine. I’m not changing that, just providing a different way of delivering it – and arguably a much safer way. I’ve been using one for 7 weeks now and my lungs feel a lot cleaner and my fitness has improved no end.

But I know loads of others who have quit/are quitting, and they’re all using some form of the above.

They have not quit they have simply changed the way they get their fix from nicotine

and arguably a much safer way

Would be interested to see research on how good this is for you I assume you have some [ i can hear you googling from here]
No actual research on this is there

Sorry, should have said “the;ve quit smoking cigarettes” which is the important thing, cos its them that **** your lungs.

Glad to hear the shop’s going well.

It’s not the nicotine that’s the issue though, it’s the effects of absorption of PG and VG.
There was some concerns that water molecules could form within the lungs whilst vaping IIRC.

My wife uses them at the minute. I stopped 4 years ago & have stayed stopped.

I too was concerned about where the “vape juice” came from therefore bought pharmaceutical grade base ingredients and done my homework. It now costs between £0.10p – £0.16p a day to “vape” and the dosage can be altered to suit. The grand master plan is to drop a milligram a week over 24 weeks then quit. Probably.

Thanks for the mostly positives 😀

Considering you are inhaling vaporised vegetable glycerin or propylene glycol – both found in foodstuffs (we only supply the VG), flavourings and nicotine I’d think it a safe bet that it’s not quite as harmful as tar, salt peter, arsenic, formaldehyde etc etc. Wouldnt you? I’m guessing until I provide you with extensive medical proof that you’ll carry on the same stance though!

Stu does raise one concern we are aware of though

I think you’ll find that PG is in many medicines as well

I think the general consensus about the water molecules is that its no biggie.

I’ll try to find the info for you. It was quite interesting.

Oh, and good luck by the way. I wish you every success !

It is indeed stu, including asthma inhalers I’ve read somewhere

I gave up smoking around 22 years ago and have never wanted to go back. Interestingly a few weeks ago my daughter visited and she had an e-cig with her. For some unknown reason I asked to try it. 😳

My thoughts were that, yes, it’s another addiction for those trying to quit but also ex-smokers could be tempted back. For example, the typical habits of smokers are lighting up after dinner/when socialising, if one has any smoking friends left etc etc. The act of choosing what flavour, knowing that it’s safer etc., could perhaps entice ex-smokers.

S’OK though, I’ve no intention of going back. 🙂

Edit: Of course good luck Artist!
