I’ve ordered the guide book for this however are there any good websites showing route and suggested stops for a 4 day trip

Our four day trip a few years ago went – Day 1 – St Bees to Coniston, Day 2 – Conniston to Kirkby Stephen, day 3 – Kirkby Stephen to Castleton, Day 4 – Castleton to RHB then to Scarborough for the train home. B&B’s all the way.

Thanks, is the navigation difficult or is it waymarked?

In my opinion deciphering the guide book is a bigger challenge than the ride itself 🙂

Google for a gpx file if you have a gps 🙂

Can be a wee bit confusing at times but mostly straightforward. Get the 1:25000 Explorer maps for the route through the Parks and mark it up. The bit from Richmond to Osmotherly, get a road map or Landranger. We did it in 2000 and the only waymarking we saw was when the route coincided with the Wainright C2C.

By the way, have a great time. It’s a classic trip with some long days. I found four days a wee bit of a struggle, especially day 3. If I were to do it again I’d take longer over it.

Thanks, will probably only have the 4 days so looks like June would be the best time to get the best of the daylight!

    Hello,
Here’s the links to Garmin connect for the route I did in July. Did it over 3 days, starting in RHB after doing a road version in the more traditional direction a couple of days before. I used a Garmin Edge 800 for navigation and didn’t get lost once – an excellent piece of kit. I had back up maps of the whole route but didn’t need them at all.
The only bad time I had was toward the end of the last day after trying to cross the whole of the lakes in a day. I gave up at Wasdale Head and took the road back to St Bees rather than going over Black Sails Pass in the (pouring) rain.

Hope it helps, let me know if you would like any further info.
    Cheers,
    Chris
