I just found this pic and thought I’d share.

No details of the smash but it’s a beaut 🙂

“How does it handle square edge hits?”

    “Well……”

Easy mistake to make though, ‘red ones go faster’ applies to frames rather than rim / fork combos.

A decent micro-fibre cloth, professional grade silicone polish and some effort will buff that out.

You know you’ve bent your rim when you’ve bottomed out your brake disc

Never mind the rim, I wonder what happened to his bollox after that impact 😮

If it had been realsteel, it would have been springy enough to absorb that…

What’s going on with those forks, look like Z1 lowers with a different crown and short travel – not that I keep an eye on the marzocchi line-up

Could be the ltd 2008(ish) forks lowered?

This is the trouble with 26 inch wheels. 😥

They look like the limited edition Z1 RC2’s, but the crown certainly isn’t right as they were bolted up. But that era marzocchi’s were really interchangeable, so possibly they’ve put the lowers on DJ uppers as they were the same, but the DJ forks had a more solid crown and steel steerer?

Either that or it’s just red dirtjumpers and the colour ballance is a little off.

    Wouldn’t have happened to a 650b.

    Wouldn’t have happened to a 650b.

Assuming that every other factor remained the same (materials of tyre and rim, force, obstacle), wouldn’t a 650b wheel be slightly more susceptible to damage?

Nah, the awesome inherent to the larger wheel would have repelled the ground, meaning the rider would have styled it out without dislodging his skinny jeans or perfectly flat brimmed trucker cap. X

mate did similar…. we had just built up his new 456 and went out for a blast.

on the way home there is a section of curb/wall about 1ft high. at some point there is a gap of about 1.5m. on his burly FS he could just about make it, with the suspension making up for the short fall/his short comings….

he puts in a few pedal strokes and launches it…. BANG! WHACK! ARRRRRRGH! HAAHHAAA (from me). his 821 rim had imploded. and only a week or so after i had re-built it after his mech had got mangled up due to his lackadaisical maintainence….
