I’m not big on schadenfreude, but that’s a special amount of stupid.

    I’m jealous, I can’t even backflip a bike – let alone a mobility scooter.

I think to qualify for a Darwin Award you actually have to die.

They may be fat, but are also ingenious.

Longer video without the ‘comedy’ slow motion here.

The bigger question is, WTF was she in a wheelchair in the first place?

Bloody hell, she does walk down the stairs! And that’s after she’s had a lump of motorised wheelchair squidge her. I didn’t laugh, but I have no sympathy!

The bigger question is why are you so self righteous and ignorant.

Anyhow why the hell she thought it would get up there I don’t know..

Motorised scooters are a big deal in the States, even bigger than they are here. you even get them at the entrances to superstores for the benefit of lazy bastards as well as the sick and lame.

Plenty of ilnesses that result in you not being able to walk very far, a stroke or back injury for example? There’s an STWer who’s wife/gf has some illness which means she can’t walk far but otherwise lookes healthy (sory, can’t remember who).

I think what people are suggesting is that people who are genuinely sick or have bad back wouldnt risk trying to take it up that escaltor. Esp if you had a bad back imagine how bad it would be after that.

I’d dont think many fit healthy strong people would admit it because of the due to the large chance of injury. I would nt do try it, unless I was drunk obviously 🙂

Went to Disneyland once. Depressingly common sight of folk on Mob’ Scooters pulling up to a ride, leaving it in the charge of a family member while they head off to get rattled around ride.

My thoughts exactly. Wheelchair does not mean “must be completely paralysed or they are just trying it on”.

However (assuming of course that she has normal cognitive function) attempting to go up the escalator was indeed head-shakingly stupid.

    Excuse me?

Wheelchair does not mean “must be completely paralysed or they are just trying it on”.

No, I know. But from the video, there’s little sign of any impaired mobility at all.

I know plenty of people who can’t walk very for for whatever reason. My mum’s recovering from a stroke, for a start. She doesn’t have a wheelchair, and wouldn’t have been able to spring up and get down the stairs anything like the woman in that video did.

Or those who need them but can’t afford them…

Perhaps better to hold off judging without knowing the full story…?

However I admit that trying to go up an escalator in a wheelchair is a bit dense, regardless of your state of health!

Wonder whether she’ll now sue the Subway operators and escalator manufacturers for not making the escalator wheelchair friendly…? 😐 Presumably there would be a lift on the station somewhere for the less mobile…

Wondering what those who helped her thought as she strolled away!?
