PRO FRS is a brilliant wee stem… though the new graphics, er, divide opinion. Between the graphic designer and everyone else, I think.

Gusset Staff is similiarly good, but too shiny for my scabby bikes.

Northwind, that a gusset looks remarkably like an Orange Stalk stem I have. Bloody good bit of kit.

bit over budget, and not as light as the funduro but looks nice in the flesh and solid, big chunky bolts

DMR Swarm stem, very nice stems.

Normally £35 on it’s own – Upgrade bikes (DMR distributor) have a couple of sets of Ex-display Swarm Stem and Wing Bar for £35 all in, inc. postage I bought a set last week, and they looked brand new…

    35mm (and just over budget).

ControlTech FX 45mm is nice if you can find one.

The holzfeller is basically a diving brick with holes in, strong like ox, light like ox. I do like mine but it’s a bit specific.

The On One I think is the one that the faceplate’ll definitely snap if you get a Superstar one and it’ll be unfit for purpose, but will be fine if it’s On One and if it does snap it’ll be your fault 😉

(on a similiar note, Future have reviewed it twice- when it was Superstar it was a 2-and-a-half star, and “There’s noticeable give when you pull on the bars, which isn’t ideal.”, then they reviewed a longer version branded as Sunline, £25 more expensive, and all of a sudden an extra star and “The main body of the stem is squared off rather than purely round in cross section, adding torsional stiffness. We didn’t detect any hesitation in the steering out on the trails or flex while hauling on the bars during climbs.”)

    As above, Funnduro http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k1871/a66996/stem-funnduro.html?mfid=462
    A bit over budget though.

I’ve got the 40mm and it’s a nice light thing.

Could anyone really tell the difference between 2 stems of the same length while riding?

It’s a lightweight bit of a pretty flexible metal with a lever over two feet long through it. So yes – a Renthal stem feels vastly stiffer than an eXotic one.

I followed this thread with interest as I was wanting a 50-60mm stem on a similar budget.

I decided I wanted the On-One Ultralight CNC Stem 50mm but Planet X were out of stock. So I ordered one of these only yesterday @ 60mm:

    http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k445/a59425/aka-all-mountain-stem-5%B0-318mm-1-1-8-black.html

Planet X are now in stock of the On-One 50mm!

Which is best? I’m contemplating returning the Truvativ one when it arrives and ordering the On-One now!

…My error, Planet X still out of stock, they only have silver!

Does it matter if it says On-One instead of Planet X? 9 or so in stock…
