News Article advocating violence against cyclists again

Usual hate piece with a bit of violent intent thrown in.

Apparently Chris Rundle, a “journalist” writing at the Western Daily Press thinks that:

off-road bikers are becoming something of a menace

Cyclists are, I’m afraid, becoming a bit of a nuisance generally

I have some degree of sympathy for villagers in the New Forest who, finding themselves under siege yet again from the Lycra-clad hordes during a recent organised event decided to welcome the riders by scattering drawing pins on the road

Cyclists are getting above themselves.

the highway authority has chosen to go to the expense of installing a cycle path (shared with pedestrians)… In vain do I draw alongside, lower the passenger window and explain at considerable volume that if the sign says ‘cycle path’ then that’s where they should be, rather than on the road. My words fall on deaf ears – or are met with a cheery wave of the middle finger.
..
I am reluctant to resort to violence but I do feel rather more persuasion is required to end the menace which is imperilling the well-being of every other road user. Perhaps a smart jab with the business end of a billiard cue through the open window will do the trick in directing the rider on to his designated part of the carriageway. I shall report back on progress.

I complained, its been done before, but what part of the code do you claim it broke?

the code is rather brief and I could not see anythign oibvious- that surprised me tbh

Quick read of the code suggests Accuracy is probably the easiest one:

iii) The Press, whilst free to be partisan, must distinguish clearly between comment, conjecture and fact.

But they seemed to consider the “advocating violence” complaints in the Matthew Parris case a few years ago, despite the code not explicitly covering it,

We shall not allow these people to pollute our minds with anger.

Advocating violence to cyclists covered in the code?

Isn’t advocating violence a criminal matter rather then a PCC matter?

I also read the PCC Code and I don’t think he’s breaking their code – which I find quite depressing!

The code doesn’t seem to be worth the paper it’s printed on – much like the original story I guess 😀

PCC complaint made.

I focussed on the Inaccuracy (Section 1, clause i and iii) aspect as they don’t seem to mind advocating violence, but I obviously mentioned that too and suggested that advocating violence against a minority group should be covered by the spirit of the Harassment (“Journalists must not engage in intimidation”) and the Discrimination sections.
