    Taking the plunge and getting some Mavic Crossmax SX's. As they are UST, if I run UST specific tyres on them, do I still need to use sealant?

    Thanks

    No, but sealant will give you puncture protection

    I asked something similar last week;

    http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/newbie-xm819-ust-tubeless-q

    I ended up using some 2Bliss tyres and stans sealent, went on a treat, and inflated easily enough with my cheapo decathlon track pump. After listening to some of the stories on here, I'd penciled the whole evening in for the job, but within 20 mins I was riding down to Sainsburys to treat myself to a bottle of wine 🙂

    Ooh, Sainsburys……how classy

    Sealant is always a good idea, you'll feel like a bit of a dick if you get a thorn puncture ten minutes in to your first ride and slowly deflate over the next couple of miles. 50ml of stan's or wheel milk does the trick and gives you peace of mind. I speak from experience, UST tyres aren't immune to small sharp things. Other than that, excellent choice, tubeless is the future
