Blimey, how many years is it since you bought those wheels off of me on Ebay?!? 🙂

    haha, they’re awesome!

Hubs are still perfect. Had the rear rebuilt once as kept snapping spokes. They’ve been used on a few different bikes, geared and SSed! 🙂

Edit: I just checked. Feb 2006!

Will have to take some when I get home – currently in Cyclo-x mode with knobblies on, but will be returned to tourer at some point!

Actually, I sent them back last week and got a refund!

I didn’t like the mounting system on them. It has a lot of vertical play so the panniers move up and down over bumps. I had some water leakage inside (not sure if this was from the fabric or the drawstring. Scotland was very wet!). And finally one of the drawstrings was already fraying after a week’s use (not what you want if you’re buying with the expectation to use them for ~5 years).

Going to be getting a set of Ortlieb Back Roller Plus’s instead.

I like that. A bike that actually gets ridden is always cool.

Although this wouldn’t be STW if I didn’t comment on the size of the loop in your rear gear cable.

Whoa….. Not surprised they’ve needed a bit of TLC in that time, esp touring with 28-hole wheels 😉

Spokily, I have a Carpe Diem almost identical that is my commuter at the moment, as with Flange, it’s running discs, so doesn’t look as clean as yours. Very much liking the ‘industrial chic’ of the chainset….

I love my discs, I’m mighty tempted by a Fixie inc Pure blood but to be honest, this does everything I need. Maybe a new paintjob on the cards then…

I hadnt actually realised they were 28-hole until you just said that…

I have a Ti version of the Carpe Diem (although badged Van Nicholas). A great bike which also gets used as a tourer and commuter.

As said above, I love to see bikes like this in real use.

Here’s one of mine beside a very, very famous phone box
