Great and surprising good news about Cwmcarn this evening via Cwmdown.

Frankly I was getting the feeling that NRW and the local council had pretty much given up on the place once the cognition money ran out, but it seems there’s life in the old dog yet.

There’s a new uplift road coming, they’re reopening the Dragon Downhill track, not sure if it’s full time or just for races and some vague news of “Enduro” trails, which I guess will be half shady, half race day only trails rather than part of the offical XC loop network.

Still good news, it’s a great place to ride in spite of the local council rather than because of it.

Great news. We used to ride Afan on the Saturday after travelling down from the north to ride BPW Sun/Mon but discovered Cwmcarn a few years ago and it’s soooo much better than Afan.

I tend to ride the xc loop but my riding buddy raves over the uplift

Where’s this news? I couldn’t find it on their website.

Where is the old Dragon DH track?

    Look on facebook.

So are the XC trails there decent these days? Might like to pop in when I’m down that way again.

Yes. Both great. One a little more natural, one swoopy and bermy.

I like Cwmcarn – good to hear the place is still being developed.

Always had a soft spot for Cwmcarn. It’s a nice blend of tough, interesting climbing and fun, swooping descending.

We had a day at Afan and a day at Cwmcarn this year too having driven over from Hampshire. Cwmcarn now gets my vote any day.

I used to LOVE Whites Level due to the technical nature of the climb and the awesome descent but I feel that it’s changed a lot over the years. Since they took the Forest out of Afan Forest it’s just not the same. The descent of Y Wall was a highlight of the trip there.

Cwmcarn on the other hand was really great. A real mix of riding over the 2 ‘XC’ trails and ridden fast there is plenty to keep you on edge.

I’d totally go back to Cwmcarn over Afan if I had to make a choice.

That’s the beauty of the place IMO. You can pootle round with beginners or ride it quick and it’s a challenge for more experienced riders.

It’s my favourite night spot at the minute. A quick cafell lap works well for battery levels! and it isn’t too far from bristol. The place just rules!

I still think the Twrch trail is a good’un: a proper technical climb at the beginning instead of a fireroad slog, and a fast, challenging downhill at the end.

Good news if something new is happening there but Isn’t the old Dragon DH the main Y Mynydd DH trail that has been back open for months now.If not where is it ?

The old dragon course ran from where the current uplift drops You off pretty much where everyone has a pee in the trees, before descending and roughly follows the raven walking trail, it was steep loamy and slippery.

Ah! Gotcha. On the last uplift I did (last November), there were a few who headed off in that direction.

Ah yeah I’ve ridden some of that then top bit I think.

I Don’t think I recognise this bit that drops in off the tarmac though,I guess we didn’t do the lower bit for whatever reason looks fun though and will or does add an alternative/extra descent down to center.

    Dragon DH?
