  • Any plumbers in – New radiator valves don't fit?

I managed to shear the adjuster off my lockshield valve at the weekend while trying to balance the rads up, so have bought a new TRV and lockshield to fit.

I thought I just needed 15mm valves to suit the copper pipe size, but the thread going into the rad is too big for the new valves.
Having a little search online, it looks like 3/4″ is the size I need to connect to the rad.

Is there a bush that sits in the new rad to reduce the thread size down, or do I need a different valve altogether?

Can anyone confirm this is the part I need?

The threads on the tails of the new valves you have are the same size as the threads on that tail currently going in to your rad. Its just the valve side thats different. So no you wont need a bush.

ETA: you will just need a big key to get the current tail out.

    You could just buy this.
    lockshield

Change the valve, leaving the radiator alone. Whatever you do do (ha) I just said do do. Use some jointing paste on the olive on the copper and on the flange of the lock shield.

Or less messy, use PTFE tape to help with sealing.

is it not 1/2″ if so you can just buy a lockshield valve to fit.

if the valve has gone like that id be looking at swapping the rad. I wouldn’t be surprised if the thing ws corroded and the tails stuck in, you might damage the rad removing it.

in this instance buy all the bits you need x2 and take the rest back the next day. 🙂

No it isn’t and did you read the above comments? There’s a link to the same lockshield he already has which he can do a straight swap with.

That makes no sense. At all.

And this is complete madness in any scenario.
