My bike currently has SRAM X9 9 speed with a basic PG-950 cassette. I need to replace it, and was planning on an XT cassette (same cog range). I think it should be a straight swap…

As for chains, I’m not sure what to go for. Wiggle are selling XTR 9 speed for about £15. I’m also considering the Wippermann 9SX stainless steel chain which is £36. I’m trying to work out what advantages there might be – apparently the Wippermann quick links are good, and the factory grease attracts less dirt than the Shimano stuff. Presumably it will last longer or be more corrosion resistant, but will it be noisier or slower to shift gears?

It’s for a recumbent so I’ll need to buy 3 chains and join them together!

Thanks! I was beginning to think that – the difference will pay for the XT cassette and some replacement jockey wheels.

XTR but get quicklinks/powerlinks/etc of your choice separately for easier maintenance.
