Or some planet other than Earth.

If I started with a flat map, could I transform it into segments I could print out and stick on the sphere? Any software I could maybe use to do this?

I found an image of suitable resolution that is in ‘cylindrical’ projection, I think….

Goes into school project dad mode, here’s what you need http://www.gma.org/surfing/imaging/globe.html and then I’d put a cheapo football inside for some structure.

Go forth and win the school project parent playground “the kids did” playground fight 😉

A cylindrical projection will be fine at the equator but way too stretched at the poles. An interrupted projection would be much better if you can find one. You might be able to squash the cylindrical projection with Photoshop.

    Far too much effort.

Paint a ball black and say it is TrES-2b the darkest planet ever discovered

I’ve already got the globe, I need to re-cover it to look like Mars. It’s quite big – bigger than the school project ones. If I have to blow them up it’ll look crap I fear.
