I’ve just spent the last hour listening to Herbie Hancock – Takin’ Off.

I’ve never really got into his music (or jazz generally) before, but now, as I’m relaxing with a book, it’s perfect.

    That is all.

    That is not all because:
    kemialliset ystävät alas rattoisaa virtaa
    Is better than Herbie Hancock

Real Estate – all albums great to relax to. Also Aphex Twin Ambient Works for some hardcore relaxing.

Selected Ambient Works By Aphex Twin.

    Example:

    Alternatively Washed Out:

I’ve had some of the best nights of my life to those artists. Certainly relaxed.

Klf chill out that takes me back to another decade mid 90s being utterly stoned beyond all belief on a regular basis…good call 😀

Unfitgeezer – many moons ago I used to work behind the bar at the Hacienda. It’s fair to say it wasn’t your average bar job. I used to roll back home at 5am, sit with my feet in the sink, looking out from an 11th storey tower block, kitchen window in Salford, over Manchester, skin up, and just bang KLF Chill Out on. It was the default album. And for good reason

One of the best albums ever made IMHO. I bloody love it!

Depends what type of relaxing, like levels innit?

    For me –

Level 1 (ie driving up the M5 after rush hr) – Miguel Migs, Naked Music, Lisa Shaw, Kyoto Jazz Massive, mix of Underworld’s downtempo ambient stuff
Level 2 (ie driving down the M5 at 2am) – D J Shadow, Nick Drake, David Axelrod, Ella Fitzgerald
Level 3 (ie recumbent after working hard) – Guqin classical Chinese zither (ie Wang Fei), Orb ‘Live 93’
Level 4 (ie in need of dark room, lengthy solitude and a good cerebral shower) – Gas – ‘Zauberberg’. (In fact whole discography, but Zauberberg more often than not)

Thank you for al of those!

I’m not planning a strong session of Youtube mining and, if that pans out, I think I might be going record shopping. Or getting a Spotify account or something.

Whatever the youth does these days to listen to music.

There are a few Slumber Sessions on Soundcloud that are good for mind soothing. Phaeleh, Submotion Orchestra and Kimyan Law are all worth a look. I am currently working through A Strangely Isolated Place on Soundcloud as there are some pretty chilled mixes there too.

Dave Brubeck’s Greatest Hist is another good gateway into Jazz
For old school clever chillout David Holme’s Essential Mix ’98 is pretty good
Brian Eno’s Ambient Music for Airports is amazingly relaxing.
Groove Armada’s Another Late Night and/or Back to Mine.

I’ll get flamed for this but the acoustic version of Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill is bloody brilliant, it is definitely my go-to relaxation album. A bit of Jack Johnson works for me as well.

I like a a bit of Japanese Post-rockers Mono for a serious relax.

Even the noisy bits are relaxing in a way…

I have this – http://www.helpmechill.com – on the radio when I’m driving during the day. They play some great stuff and it’s advert free plus pretty much DJ free. I think they get a lot music sent in by the listeners. Gets played in the house quite a bit now.

It may have some stuff at times I don’t like, but I listen to Jazzfm, despite never having thought of myself as ‘into’ Jazz… the music suits my relaxing persona.
