I’ve just received this from my sis:

OK music and film buffs and old duffers, I need your help to solve something that has been niggling me for about 25 years.

In about 1986, I saw a film on Channel 4 set in a UK boys’ boarding school. It possibly wasn’t massively suitable for a 15 year old. The soundtrack featured “Badge” by Cream (not as the main theme, but it was used several times throughout the film). I wrote to C4 to find out what the song was and went out and bought The Best of Cream as a result. But what was the film???? I am pretty sure it wasn’t “If” or “Another Country”, but that kind of genre. It was definitely before “Dead Poets Society” (which is a US school anyway). My googling powers are failing me. Ambrose Hearne? John Hearne? Tony Tapp? Chris Barker? – you’re all a little bit older than me and might know what the film was. Nicole Harrison (does Rob’s music geekery stretch this far?)?

Perhaps a STW member can help us out.

Is it ‘If’ with Malcolm macDowell?

‘Goodbye Mr Chips’ and ‘Badge’came out in the same year. Is that the answer?

EDIT: Too late, and wrong answer. Oh well.
