Not arsed if you don't use one or think trying to keep shit out of your eyes is for puffs/girls etc.
What i want to know is the bets anti shit solution for mud/cow muck etc thrown up from the front wheel.
Currently have a crud catcher so could use this in tandem with a mucky nutz, neoguard (or rubber neoguard copy), a crud fast fender, or replace with a full real guard.
Whats best for coverage in your EXPERIENCE?

IME the bender fender is the best solution. Bigger guards don't seem to be much better, and the neoguard is almost as good, but doesn't give any coverage for the seals on your forks.
Crud and Neoguard seem to work well together for me. Each on their own is pretty useless I find. Can't beat glasses tho!
Crudcatcher isn't much use at all by itself. Neoguard and Bender Fender work very similiarly but I prefer the Bender Fender... Does need to have a little spare room in the fork to work well.
The absolute best option is something like an SKS Shockboard, a crown-mounted moto-style guard. There's none out there that I'm completely impressed with, even the otherwise excellent Shockboard is brought down a bit by its poor mounting method... But flawed as they are, they do the job better than anything else. Obvious really, the mudguard needs to move with the wheel.
And IMO, they look better than the alternatives... Crudcatcher's a pretty horrible looking thing, these are smaller and much less visible from most directions.
I use a Neoguard and a 10 year old crudcatcher under the downtube. Keeps me happy enough but i've never tried anything else.

I used to use Neoguards on my bikes,then thought for the price,I'll try a Muckynutz. I think these work far better when also used with a Crud catcher on the downtube, no mud in your face, and also no crap collects around your wiper seals/fork brace like the Neoguard.
I bought a Muckynutz and used it as a pattern to make them for my other bikes/mates bikes.

I used SKS shockboard/shockblade type mudguards - work very well and are removable but I have broken a few!
I'm trying a fender bender and it works well enough (miles better than a crud catcher). I made one a a few years ago out of a milk bottle which worked even better but looked a bit gash.

I use a CrudCatcher on all my mountain bikes. Then, depending on the bike, either a pi55flap made of an old inner tube, or a Crud Gonzo aka Fast Fender.
Well, it does look like Gonzo's nose!
The Fast Fender's a ridiculous product... Like a Shockboard except exactly half as effective and twice as ugly. IMO it's just crud trying to avoid admitting that downtube guards are rubbish...

Very easy to fit, don't mark your bike, and work great....+ with a little extra rubber they stop water getting in your headset too!
Northwind, I beg to differ. On the bike I use it on, it fits perfectly and works perfectly, as in keeping spray from my face. The bike in question does not allow me to use any other front spray guard. Spesh E150 forks, see!
Looks daft, but it works.
Spy Vs Spy Beak works exactly as well as the front half of a crown guard, is my point, while the bit that's not there works exactly 0% as well as the back half. But yep, can understand the attraction for a fork that can't take a proper mudguard, that's a fair point.
(edit- though, why not? my Boxxers will take a Shockboard... I've broken all my Shockboard mounts so I use cable ties. Annoying, but it does work.

FenderBender works brill, especially with a Crud Catcher - but, it doesn't like been left on when the bike is on the back of the car...
MuckyNutz runs it a close second, and light and unobtrusive.

Used them for at least a good couple of years now through the winter slop and they work a treat. Make sure the bung bit is in good and tight though as I've lost one this way.
(Don't suppose anyone has a spare bung for a 1 1/8th steerer...don't need the screw/expand bit, just the cylindrical bung bit)
For keeping the clag off I have used a Topeak Defender M1. Bolts into the steerer so it still works when you turn, unlike the lighter and more aesthetically pleasing Crud Catcher. I used a Neoguard for a winter but Chilterns muck just stuck to it.

Muckynutz and crud catcher is best, although the plastic of the muckynutz is prone to bending out of shape due to it being stiff and bendy - this can catch on the tyre and buzz about, which is quite annoying.
I'm going to buy a silicone pastry roller from morrisons and make an extended version, like a smaller version of the home made fender bander. My only concern is the pasrty roller may be too thin and wobbly,. otherwise there's the Sugru air hardening sillicone that Alpkit sell
Another one for the shockboard here. They ming and can fall off sometimes but they keep more mud off than anything else.

In my experience the Bender Fender has the Neoguard-type beat on the fact that it directs crap away from the fork stanchions too. Otherwise it seems to provide similar coverage. As Northwind has said though, it does need a bit of room around the fork bridge. The one I have just now is a 'custom' size, for better coverage, made from A4 folder. One of those coupled with a Crudcatcher is my mudguard of choice for when it gets really gloopy.
Has anyone found a good way of stepping a crud catcher off the down tube for bikes that run both gear cables on the down tube?
I had to bodge mine a bit.
I drilled a pair of holes about half way between the existing O ring holes on the guard.
This allows me to mount the crudguard on the down tube without the o rings fouling the cables where they run with no outer.

I used a wee bit of random foam that was in the garage. Another approach is to add a bit of cable outer. Or, the Cycraguard one stands itself off a ways just with the standard mounts.

Couple of zipties will hold a bust shockboard on (protect the fork with electrical tape)

Muckynutz works well for me, worth every penny.
Shockboard works OK if you put something round the plastic bung to increase the friction coefficient (3 years no problem) but the sliding fit wears slightly so it does move about a wee bit.
My original intention had been to cut down a front guard from a trials motorcycle (the radius seems near enough) and make up a stay to fit it to the sliders but couldn't be bothered after finding the 'board. No doubt I'll get round to it eventually.
