It’s dark, and I’ve lost my main riding lights since last winter.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good set of lights for the trails ? (Still have a helmet mounted light, but looking for something bar mounted)

I’m looking to spend less than £250 on a set that should last me a good few years.

Was looking at something like Exposure, or Ay-up, but any suggestions welcomed.

However Trouties are very well made (in Britain) and bright, but more expensive.

Trouties Darkness Dominator, mentally bright light, makes me grin like a loon everytime I turn it to boost 😆

Also check out this thread especially the tripple XML cute which is the same as Trouties but cheaper because its not anodised, I also got the endurance batteries from mtbbatteries (smudge). Total cost was about £220 for a 2700ish lumen light with the most amazing spread:

I met the full beam guys atthe bikeshow. Mega nice guys and stood chatting for 40 mins. Could have stayed longer as themore we spoke, the more questions i had.

If i could afford a new light then thats where my cash would go (along with a mini trout on my head).

i use troutie lights (dominator ) sounds like a sex toy but works as a 2nd sun!

i use trouts old diy kit.

i cant imagine a situation i need more than 700 lumen.

head torch only. i`m not into bar mounted strobe lights any more.

If the Magicshine 872 said Hope on the side people’d be queuing up to pay £400 for it. And sometimes i think, if they doubled the price they’d sell more as snobs would stop dismissing them as cheap foreign imports.

They are very good, and make most other lights look like terrible value, and a lot of lights just look terrible full stop.

Lovely spread beam and amazingly bright. Gives you daylight vision!!

As above. My first ever light MJ872 so nothing to compare with but wow! I have had a week and been out every night and my legs are killing!

The ebay link Kbrembo posted I’ve noticed theres 2 battery pack options.

Which is the better pack of the 2?

It mentions ones lighter than the other.Id ideally helmet mount mine,Is the cable long enough for the battery pack to be put in your pocket and run the helmet to your lid?

Ordered a Magicshine MJ872 on Sunday, arrived today. Done the garden test.. my god its bright. I don’t do a massive amount of night riding so didn’t want to spend a fortune.
It looks solid enough, but I think I’ll get the Hope bracket from CRC, the o-rings look ok, but I wonder if they’ll keep it steady enough.

for the money though it looks brilliant

Doubt you will need it on full for the entire ride!

I only had it on full for the fast tricky sections… lowest power setting on the up’s

We were out near 3 hrs and there was about half a charge showing

It’s the battery with digital read out that I received…

I ordered a hope bracket but have not got it yet….I added a zip tie round the mount and to be honest it was perfect over a pretty rocky/root riddled trail…..

Hmmm they did offer two options when i was thinking of buying a few weeks back.

One was a plain black unit with no readout but was lighter and not as bulky.

Can you comment on the cable length? is it long enough to go to your pocket and is the battery pack with the readout pocketable or only really suitable for camelbak use if i was to helmet mount.

I’ve jsut bought one, I hope its decent. My DX light went iffy earlier this evening and I cant open it up to have a look at it, dodgy wiring I think. I hope this magicshone one is better quality!
