Anyone got any recommendations.

I’m size 9 and often have to go for a 10 so they don’t crush my feet sideways but then they’re too long.

Have a look at Giro’s “HV” fit ones – specifically designed for wider feet. Northwave also size up ok from experience.

It varies even within brands I find but spesh, Shimano, bont work for me

I’ve got wide feet compounded by having gout attacks which can be worsened by wearing narrow shoes. I ordered some Shimano wide fitting SPD shoes from Evans in half a size up and they’ve been brilliant

There’s not much in it, but I find that Specialised shoes tend towards a wider fit over e.g. Shiamno.

Shimano for me, although I dont like the opposed Velcro of the new ones compared to the old m088. Spesh aren’t wide had a couple of pairs, same I found for northwave. Not tried the giro hv. I find the shoes need to be proper wide fit rather than just a bit big for the size.

Can’t recommend mavic rush wide either, the buckles basically fell off mine.

Spesh for me, id suggest any of the wide fit options from the other brands but you’d really need to try them on to know if they work for you.

FWIW, when I first rode in my Specialized boots I thought they felt odd. Then immediately forgot I was wearing them.

All that said, I’ve developed some knee pain which might be related. Although I’ve significantly upped my training, and changed pedals. So might not be related.

Spesh aren’t wide

That’s really interesting, I guess that’s related to foot shape as well as size as I find Shimano narrow.

Northwave used to be wide, now not.

Dhb ones seem pretty wide

I’m sending a set of northwave back. Wider than some of the shimano ones I’ve tried but still not wide enough.

If they’re the sort of thing you’re after, I find the shimano DX shoes to be wider than any of the normal rigid with Velcro type shoes I’ve tried. In that sort of shoe I’ve tended to get by with specialised although they’re not really wide enough for me.

I’ve also found my DX shoes to outlast anything else I’ve had.

What about going for the more skate orientated variety such as Fiveten or something like the Specialized 2FO cliplite? I’ve found that often gives a wider shoe which helps with my troll feet. Admittedly it does depend a bit on whether you’re an xc racer or just general riding although I suspect the difference in the shoe makes little difference providing the sole is still relatively stiff.

I’ve wide feet with a high arch and I rate specialised really highly and for me they fit like puma/addidas.

Always found that shimano fit like nike (bit long and thin).

I bought some giro (not the hv version) and they are inbetween the two.

Mavic do a Maxi version of some of their shoes. I have a pair and they’re definitely wider and stopped me doing exactly what you do and buy a size larger to get the width.

I also have some Sidi Diablo that seem quite wide but I can’t remember whether or not they were a wide version or standard fit. Probably about 8 years old now but might be worth checking they don’t offer a wide fitting.

Pricey, but have a look at Lake.

I’ve got some DX shoes which as above are pretty wide, but not stiff enough soles for me seem to aggravate my plantar fasciitis, I bought another pair of the older gore-tex boots (MW-81 i think) which I always used to get on with but the new ones had the same part number but came up narrower than my old ones!

I ended up with two pairs of thick socks and doing them up super tight, then playing a hot hair-dryer over them, this seems to have successfully stretched the synthetic leather to mould to my feet. I can now wear them quite happily.
So the upshot is if you can find something close to a fit and they are synthetic you might be able to adapt them, worked for me anyway.

ps. I found the Giro HV didn’t fit me or Northwave.

Lake MX237,

Wide enough for my F width feet in their normal fitting. Their wide fitting must be like boats!

Their road CX237 is identical, which I use on the road.

Lake have a good fitting guide on thier website.
They also make fantastic quality shoes.

wide in the middle or wide at the end ? My feet are square ended – spesh works for me.

I bought some Lake MX175 a few months ago, I had to go a size bigger – 45 rather than 44, as despite the wide fitting, they were certainly not as wide as my old Sidi Mega’s in 44. Salt Dog cycling had the best prices and good service too.

Shimano and Spesh always fit my hobbit-wide feet.

I’ve only had one set of lake SPD shoes, but they were unequivocally in another quality league when compared to everything I’ve had before or since. The only reason I don’t have some now is that they’re a bit tricky to get to try on, aren’t they easily available, and the product line is a bit off what I want.

Sidi Mega, lake and Shimano wide are the widest

shimano have a few lasts. so worth working out which ones are wider.

Another vote for the Giro HV versions – got a terraduro HV and it is the most comfy shoe I have owned. I have very wide feet as well!
