  • M&S Home insurance – alternatives – flood plain content!

M&S have declined to transfer my policy to my new house because its in a historical flood zone (150m from river).

Annoying as I am specifically with M&S for the bike cover. Anyone know any other insurance companies that are similar to M&S? i.e expensive bikes covered as standard.

    Thanks,

Same happened to me this year.
Had to go with Swinton in the end – the only one who would cover me.
Had to put a value on all bikes & went as low as I dare with the values.
£750 lump sum, direct debt would have been much higher.

Just about to renew my policy, went up from £340 to £690 with Swinton.
A lot of insurers are increasing there prices for anyone in a flood plain. Spoke with my neighbour and they suggested using the Post Office. Priced it on-line as well as phoned them to double check the flood plain bit, back down to around £340 now, you can also include bikes up to a reasonable value (5k I think), but it will increase the policy a fair bit.
