The full quote on G20 investigation from the BBC page is:

“The MPs said police must modify their behaviour in an age where their actions were easily filmed by the public.”

So its ok to behave badly as long as you don’t get caught? Oh, how silly of me – its the same principal as the MPs expences!

“The police must be aware that their behaviour will be monitored, recorded and instantly made public via the internet. They must modify their behaviour and briefings accordingly.”

“What’s acceptable, what’s within the police rule book – the use of distraction tactics, for example, slapping or hitting people – shocked the public,” he told the BBC.

“Therefore, they need to look again at these tactics and consult the public to decide whether or not such tactics can be used again.”

This is the full Quote yours is a sensationalist precise …are you a journo 😉

‘distraction tactics’ such as slapping or hitting people are allowed? Distracting who, the person they are slapping? Sound like an inventive excuse for when police lose it and **** someone.

Grumm you craaaaaazy lefty hippy everyone knows a quick slap calms down any irate person into a state of near nirvanic bliss ….have you not seen the old black and white movies when it worked with hysterical women…if it worked for them then why not on protesters ?

It’s a presentation issue. After the police explained it, that film of the fellow smacking Ian Tomlinson obviously did show a drunk walking in a passive-aggressive fashion who deserved everything he got, and received it in a controlled and disciplined manner from someone who was doing a very difficult job in a responsible way. It was just that, on first viewing, it appeared to show an unprovoked attack by a masked thug on a defenceless man.

It’s the same with the video of that Iranian girl being shot. There was a good reason for shooting her I’m sure, and no doubt it was done by the book. But you have to tone these things down, because people who don’t understand the context get all emotional about what the image appears to show.

Mr Vaz also said relations between police, protesters and the media must be better in the future.

“We felt it was important that the police understood there is a right to protest,” he said.

“Those who go out on the streets are not criminals… what the police should be focused on is making sure the protests are allowed to happen peacefully.”

Really? Don’t the police understand their jobs? Are they really saying that?

Lets not forget that senior police officers, who are fully aware of what their roles and responsibilities are, planned the G20 policing in minute detail and briefed the operational teams on exactly what was expected of them.

The G20 policing was deliberate, heavy handed and oppressive. It will be interesting to see what else comes out of the enquiry although I suspect the main protagonists will be protected.
