    Hi everyone,

Further to my “Squirrels in the loft” thread, I’m now trying to create a squirrel deterrent [sounds almost military!]

The idea: motion sensor turns on radio to blast out Rock FM and scare squirrels away.

The problem: where do I get a socket which turns on and off with motion – does such a thing exist? I image it to be something like a timer socket like you’d use when wanting a lamp to turn on in the evening, but with an IR sensor instead.

Can anyone suggest where I can get the above or bodge an equivalent?

    Thanks a lot!

Just use a PIR wired up to the radio instead of a bulb.

    something like this? http://www.virtualvillage.co.uk/pir-sensor-for-home-security-003921-001.html?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=shcomp

Be aware that squirrels may get out of bed earlier than you and that Planet Rock at full blast at 5am may wake other members of your household.

Maybe a lamp to start with and see if that works?

But I guess, like most things, they’ll get habituated to whatever you do and your best bet will to find how they are gaining access and put mesh across it.

I’m not sure rock music is the best deterrent, as squirrels are known to like partying……

I would go for a proper squirrel deterrent :

    Squirrels in the loft
    – If you have power in the loft, use the Rat and Mouse deterrent 4000 and position it in the middle of the loft (has a 2m cable).
    – If there’s no power supply, use the battery-powered Outdoor Squirrel repeller.

Sounds like you need an autonomous target acquiring paintball sentry.

Could you not just put some nuts in the bottom of a food processor, and stick the motion sensor next to it.

    You need the De-Pelter Turbo!

Be prepared for a lot of stinging!
