  • MOT on a car with missing seats?

This might be a daft question, but then occsaionally MOT rules don’t make much sense… I’m vaguely looking at a used people carrier which is missing some seats- it’d suit my needs well and it’s obviously cheaper than normal, so win/win. But, is there any implications for the test? The related seatbelts are also missing so I don’t think I’ll run into any of those weird “If present, must work” situations…

    Can’t test a seat/seatbelt if it’s not there.

    No problem at all.

Mine has regularly been rested with seats missing.

Fail if your spare is bald. Pass if you take it out.

isn’t it the same with a rear windscreen wiper,
mot fail if it doesn’t wipe/work,
pass if u take it off/don’t have one

Cool, ta- was just concerned there might be specific seat rules

(my motorbike’s the same- used to have a sidelight, but I removed it long ago. Every year they tell me it’ll fail, then go and look up the regs, then it passes- if present must work, no requirement to be fitted.)

rear wiper is not on the MOT and what they said – you do need a drivers seat though 😀

i’ve taken a couple of people carriers for mot with seats out – no problems

didn’t get the bald spare bit – i asked at recent mot as had swopped spare onto rear previous day and left spare on back door (4wd) with a nail in it

i asked should i take it off and take home – told me don’t check spare

Last time mine (VW T4 Multivan) was in for MOT it only had a drivers seat fitted (from another van) as mine were all out for steam cleaning.

Passed no problem, but eyebrows were raised

(also the spare was removed a long time ago, the rear wiper has been blanked, and the CAT removed, all no problem)

Passed mot on landrover by taking off the damaged windscreen
