Good music has got nothing to do with the colour of your skin - period!
I personally like the influences of jazz, funk, latin and soul music from the 70's, 80's (and going forward). The musicians of these genres were/are of varying skin colours.
I really couldn't care less what colour their skin was/is, or that of the person who influenced the genre! Jazz and a raft of other musical styles and cultures, not pertaining to any ethnic group in particular influenced/s modern music.
Pinning the colour card to a style of music is just crass and insulting to black people and also, pretty much everyone else.
I can't remember exactly when this MOBO thing started, but in the early stages it was blatantly racist. It's moved on a bit, but the title remains offensive.
OK, you might be thinking, what's my point. Imagine someone influencial in the vibrant indie music scene deciding to create the MOWO Awards. (Music of White Origin). How offensive and wrong would that be? The public outcry would be robust (and justly so).
Like I said, modern music springs from many influences - all colours creeds etc. Fortunately the boundarys as to what constitutes white, or black music are becoming more blurred - great!
Enjoy good music, but skin colour? Who the **** cares about that? - Only racists!
Nuff said!
