i’ve got the option of either of these two as a car for the next couple of years, does anyone have either of these or any experience of them? I’m looking for some real world experience to help make my mind up.

got the non outback version of the legacy – ’04 plate petrol (was dads). i like it alot!

My dad has got the diesel outback (he replaced the legacy with one) and he loves it. great handling, good ground clearance unless you want to do stuff you need a defender for, 44mpg average over all sorts of driving (and getting better with each fill). Unbelievably well built – mine doesn’t have a single creak or rattle inside at all. Surprisingly cheap to service and run.

my dad was recently looking at the forester which had an awful gearbox. i think he’s going to get a tiguan which may be another option. bit smaller but well built and nice to drive.

Outlander has really bad Torque Steer.

    Cracking sound system though.
