Des anyone have any contacts who can assay metals?

I’ve got a batch of brazing rods, and they’re wonderful for stainless steel. Problem is I got them from a mate who’s clearing out the stores at a secondary school, they came in a very ratty cardboard tube with a typewritten label from a company that’s been out of business for 50 years, so I have no idea what they are!

Possibly a crazy idea, but was thinking if I knew what the alloy was I could have a new batch made up.

    An assay office only AFAIK.

EDIT time to dust off the passport.

Interesting, cheers – though it has been pointed out to me that the secret ingredient may well be cadmium, which would be a bummer.

Cadmium a bummer – illegal? Fumes lethal?

Indeed – I think I’ll put this stuff to one side until I can get it tested for cadmium. Also got about half a kilo of silver solder, it may well have the same problem.

Only used one rod of the stuff as a test.
