I’ve decided to keep my stumpy now and upgrade the wheels from the standard ones.

Looking on Merlin last night they have a set of mavic crossrides from 2012 that look like they will fit the bill.

Are the crossrides any good or am I better of saving a bit more cash for a set of secondhand hope wheels?

Merlin also have a set of xt hubs on stans rims that look alright to?

    Are these any good aswell?

    Cheers

    Steve

I have 2011 crossrides and they are fine – run them tubeless with no issues. Be careful as they can be 15mm or qr, but not interchangeable – you have to get the one you want.

They are sealed bearing hubs too as opposed to the cup/cone XT’s if that makes a difference to you.

I got a front a few weeks ago to replace my v-brake crossride (gone to disc now). Never had a problem with the old wheel (I might have changed the bearings once in it’s life, can’t remember) and the new one seems just as good. Actually I think it’s a bit stiffer with the newer flat spokes, but that might be in my head.

I’d recommemd them, especially for the price.
