"8 out of 10 statistics are made up on the spot" - Vic Reeves (I think)
On average most humans have slightly less than 2 legs. (Actually I think that one is true)
Made up stats are the best sort - very difficult to disprove because there is no evidence either way.

People's opinions on here are made up of 100% fact.

Ummm - that is 100% wrong.
The legs thing is true though... I've met people with less than 2 legs.. but never with more than 2.

Even statistics that are not completely made up can often be analysed and presented in a way that portrays the authors inclinations rather than the true picture.
There are "Lies, damn lies and statistics!"
There is also the issue of correlation vs. causation.

That has to be true - no-one has three legs (unless you count conjoined twins) but there will be thousands of disabled people missing one or two legs.Posted 6 months ago # -
"Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.” Aaron Levenstein (I believe).

Errm, 98% of my time is spent on strategic planning, management and forecasting.

ther eis no way that only 2 % of your time is spent on STW at work I call BS but accpet you do play this game ever so well
Posted 6 months ago # -
If just 5% of policians were taken outside and shot, the people of this country would be 20% happier.
Posted 6 months ago # -
Ahh Junky, but 100% of the time I spend on STW can't be accounted for, therefore I massage the figures a little bit.
I allowed 2% for making coffee and going to the toilet.
In terms of my STW career.
45% of my time is spend talking about me.
25% of my time is spent looking for ways to sneak innuendo through the back doors.
15% is for talking about diets.
10% for lurking.
5% for writing out posts and deleting them.
3% is for lying.Posted 6 months ago # -

Posted 6 months ago # -

Posted 6 months ago # -
You'll always be a big hitter in my eyes... I see it was you that facebook found for me! It's clever that place ain't it?
Posted 6 months ago # -
I am flattered to be in your contacts though - anyway enough flirting I am off for lunch

Yeti - I take it back. Strategic planning, management and forecasting no less. So no pareto analysis with its often asserted, rarely substantiated 80-20, no assumptions of 15% growth/decline/savings etc, never use predictions of inflation.
You use made up stats all the time, and many of them are very useful.Posted 6 months ago #
