Mycars goosed so going to get on the train to go out somewhere new tomorrow, anyone know how far the start of Macc Forest Trails are from the station?

Also, is there any good riding on the Buxton line? I’ve rode up New Mills a bit, thinking maybe get off at Middlewood and ride to Roman Lakes down the Middlewood Way?

    Any other recommendations?

    Cheers in advance.

Macclesfield station to the forest is less than half an hour by easy road or you could head up the cat and fiddle road to drop in to the forest via charity lane or teggs nose. Plenty of scope from there to head further into the peak district.
There’s loads of great riding from any of the Buxton Lin stations, Middlewood to the roman lakes is an option but Disley, then down greenhalgh lane and past the paper mill is better. New Mills gives easy access to the Hayfield valley and beyond, some good stuff from Furness Vale up on Chinley churn and lots of options from Whaley Bridge. Chapel is my least favourite place as there’s very little from the town. Dove holes can be useful for getting over towards Peak Forest and Castleton while Buxton gives good access to the white peak.
Goyt valley has plenty to go at, especially week day cheeky trails.

From the station to the forest you’re looking at 30-40 minutes of riding. There are 2 routes, turn right out of the station and go under the bridge n’ through the lights, then just straight on up, taking a right up the old Buxton Road. At the top you can either take a right where the road bends round to the left for a quick Road drop down to come out about half a mile of easy climb to the leather smithy arms. Or if you keep going up that road you’ll get to the teggs nose carpark, take the offroad drop right in the middle of the car park and you can go past a farm and a walled bridleway to bring you eventually to charity lane.

The easier & less uphill route from the station is left outta the station and then left a park, cross at the lights and to the right, then take a left at a sign for a garden centre, then a few miles, then take a left after the King’s pub, following signs for Macc forest. This’ll bring you to the leathersmithy, ready for the climb to the forest.

Then follow the classic route, left after charity lane past the chapel, then up to the cat n fiddle, danebower hollow, Cumberland clough, then round the forest to the left, take the signed MTB track off the top and just as it goes left, go right through the hedge for some muddy downhill slight single track and slide back into macc for the train back.

That’s great. Looks like the Buxton line will be better, I fancy going for the Disley-Paper Mill option. Any info on where I head from the station?

From the station get on the main road and head through the traffic light (Rams head pub on the right) take the first left down Hollinwood Road, keeping right at what looks like a fork. At the T junction with the new build houses opposite go left and follow this under a railway bridge. At the next T junction go left again and just before the paper mill gates take the obvious path on the right, follow this alongside the river until it pops you out on a main road. Turn left and follow the main road for approx 1/2 mile and take the first right towards Strines railway station, follow this until it starts to rise and either take the track on the left and head towards the Roman Lakes or keep on up the cobbles, left under the bridge then right up the steepish climb to head to The Fox at Brook Bottom.

Then it’s just a case of make it up as you go I guess
