Thinking of getting one this weekend, are they worth the cash?

11″ i7 here. Not cheap but easily the best computer I’ve ever owned – fast and light with a great screen and keyboard. I spend loads of time travelling on trains and planes, so the tiny size is perfect, but if you don’t need that much portability it’s probably worth getting the 13″. I was worried about the small SSD but I just leave the photos and most of the music on my Mac Mini at home.

However, if you don’t need it now it might be worth hanging on a bit for the inevitable minor update probably coming some time soon…

    Yes, no or maybe.
    Worth is what you determine.
I have the Samsung equivalent and it’s so much better for carrying around than a more traditional style laptop, the only downside is specialist connectors.

for me, no. for you, maybe. depends on you and what you actually want to do with it.

Depends why you want one… If you’re after a very light, portable computer, it’s great. However, there’s limited hard drive space, so you need to be organised with backing stuff up if you use it for lots of photos and video.

It’s not as quick-starting as you’d think, it’s certainly not an iPad with a keyboard, it still needs to fire up. Apart from that, I find mine very easy to use and very good for travelling with. The lack of ports (no Ethernet, no CD player) can be an issue, though you can always get add-ons for that.

I have the top-end 13″ i7. Again, it’s the best PC I’ve ever owned by some margin. Starts very quickly indeed thanks to its SSD, very powerful (especially for its size), and when not using all that power can easily last 7-8 hours on a full charge surfing the web, reading pdfs and emails, word processing etc. It weighs virtually nothing and is about as thick as 50 sheets of A4.

11″ i5, 128 GB SSD here. Small, light, powerful, nice screen, great keyboard. Not too fussed about storage- most stuff is networked at home, and the disk is plenty large enough for applications. Plug it into a monitor if you need a bigger screen.

Like aP says though, value for money for them is pretty subjective, Asus Zenbook is similar but about 3/4 of the price, so the Apple pricing isn’t totally off the wall.

If you can comfortably afford it, I’d say buy one, they’re very nice to use, robust and very portable.

Is a Macbook Air / Pro likely to be capable of running Diablo 3, anyone know?
