Yeah, I make lights, by hand, which I would hope gives me a little bit of a handle on whats out there and on offer.

Theres a price point for all who are seeking night riding lights, and for some, that leads to price per lumen assessments, etc.

2.5 hours to charge a 5.2Ah battery still seems a bit rapid, but I guess L&M aren't too concerned as batteries are consumables anyway.

Bias ?, naturally, as much as anyone who likes / preferres the lights they own.

    🙂

yeah HID is still way beyond LED's in terms of intensity but there's the cost of the bulb and the energy issue I believe. I should point out that I am not a light guru at this point however 🙂

I had a look on your website luminous, they look nice. are they integrated units like exposure lights?

oh and regarding the battery – I've been using it to commute for 2 years now and seen no discernable fall-off in the battery longevity. I think they use some kind of special charger which caps the charge when the battery is a certain amount full then enters a kind of hibernation mode. just as well when a replacement battery is so costly!

Err, yeah, the website…As you can see, I'm not the worlds greatest webmaster. More like a Web-page, it could be better.
    😳

Could use some help with that, if anyone's interested.

No, the Model 601 light you see, uses an external battery, theres two configurations now, the 601, and for this season there will be the 601 Enduro.

The Enduro doesn't quite match the 601 on output, but has longer runtime

    Lights with batteries inside….hhmmmmmmm 😉

I remember having a chat with an Autocar Journo years ago, one of the first things he said was "theres no such thing as the perfect car".
Perhaps something similar could be said about night riding lights, hence the choice and the variation on the theme.
This thread started with someone reporting about a light they were disappointed with.
It would seem that there are still some shonky lights out there.
The guy I know with the LUU light says its too dim and too heavy for realistic helmet mount in his opinion, so hes looking for something else for this winter.

It would seem that the light you have now is much better put together than your previous light, allowing you to use it as intended.

I think the smartest cookies are commuters who buy a good spec front light, then use it, double-duty, for the commute and for the night rides.

Yeah I see that. Absolutely. there's always a trade-off for something. for me durability, quick recharge and reliable run times are key. In the L&M I've found these things plus a light that's powerful enough for my commute and occasional trail night ride. I carry a small BLT backup light but that's it and the roads ain't lit here on my commute. so yep I'm happy with it for now – but of course, you see something newer and better and you immediately reach into your pockets to find…. some lint and a couple of pennies.

so is the barrel length on your 601 mainly the heatsink? I must say it looks like good workmanship – do you CNC your own aluminium parts for it?

    Luv that line 😆

Yes, the main body is the heat-sink. Its been computer simulated and tested, also having a thermal cut-out to prevent damaging the internals.

CNC Ali housing produced by one the best Machining companies in the UK.
They do Aero, Auto and motor race stuff, as well as specialist tooling and the machining of special materials, and petro-chem stuff too.
As far as machining Companies go, they're 1st class.

I'm not big business for them, I think they do my work just to help out.
I like them because of the quality of their work, but also cos I'm giving work to a UK company.

It helps also that the guy I deal with there is an ex-team rider, darkside, and has a genuine interest, so he makes a real good job of the CNC work, getting stuff to with very fine tolerances, including some detailed features.

Most companies really wrag their machines to get machining time for an item, as short as possible, which has an effect on final overall fit and finish.

For larger numbers, L&M and Lupine use castings, with which there are both pros and cons.

Are you still working on that self contained unit then? You posted some pictures up last year iirc.

    Hi Wors.

For a long time, no there was no work on internal battery lights, for me.

The design you refer to was book-shelved, but I could revive it. I'd need to look into that particular design, again.

Other than that, I can't say anyting just yet (its difficult, must resist), but hopefully, soon I might be starting my own light thread…

In addition to just chatting about lights, when the opportunity arises

    Cheers
