I’ve been on the Jury for an inquest… at least half the jury were openly prepared to say what they needed to say to keep it short.

+1, that was exactly my experience of my inquest/jury service.

Pretty easy for his defence to claim it wasn’t a fair trial due to media speculation etc.

No, it won’t.

But having said that there are some criminal charges that are so heinous that even being charged with them would permanently taint your reputation, and I think in many cases there is an argument that the defendants’ name should be suppressed unless a guilty verdict is returned.
