Can anyone point me towards a good website for hiring a cottage in North Wales/Snowdonia area. (anywhere from Anglesey down to Barmouth) I am looking to book for my family of 5 in August and have tried all the usual sites but can’t find anything we really like. We are on a tightish budget of around £100 per night and have seen a few that are ok but would like more choice. Any help advice much appreciated – Cheers.

I use Best of Wales http://www.bestofwales.co.uk

Just email them your requirements and they will do the rest. They have excellent properties and will definitely come within budget. Also, ask for a discount code to get 5% off.

Don’t bother filling out the requirements form, just email them direct.

Doubt you’ll have much choice at that budget but we’ve booked for May and by far the best value for money properties were on Dioni.

    Try this place.

It is completely isolated up the side of a mountain with great views of the bay and a large garden/moor. Easy access to the beach and Snowdon and is one of those rare gems I found by accident and always return too.

I’ve stayed here before: Glan Morfa Bach
It’s slightly south of your area but near to Cadair Idris and Aberdyfi beach. You could easily cycle to Barmouth from there.

This puzzles me, you’re not buying the place just staying a few nights!

We have cabins in the middle of Coed y Brenin, but they only sleep 4.
If one of the children were ok on a airbed or camp bed it might work, depends on how much space you need to live.
    Have a look at http://www.mostyncottage.co.uk
Feel free to give us a call if you want to consider the options. A week would be £600.

    I love this place – http://www.penmaenuchafarm.co.uk/beudy.cfm
Handy for Barmouth, Cadair Idris, Dolgellau and C-y-B. Awesome little place, feels like the middle of nowhere. They do have other places nearer to civilisation, too.

Slightly lower down but we’ve stayed at the cottages at Cynfal Farm. Has its own halt on the Talyllyn railway. Still handy for Snowdonia etc

Stayed here back in November. As perfect as it could get for us. Superb walks from the door. Penmachno 15 mins drive away, betws y coed 10 mins drive, blaneau festiniog 10 mins drive with all the bounce below and zip wire shenanigans there. Locely coastline 25 mins. A great location.

It’s Wales, we’re not big on the designer stuff. Red, white and blue doesn’t go down too well around here. 😛

Stayed at a nice cottage a few years ago called Ty Llyffant; pretty sure I booked with Hoseasons for a very reasonable price.

Trawsfynydd Holiday Village is half way between Porthmadog and Dolgellau and offer 2 and 3 bedroom log cabins within your budget. Log Cabins may be more rustic than you are looking for, but if you fancy having a look you can read more about our village and use our online booking pages to see exactly which cabins are available for your dates 🙂 http://www.logcabinswales.co.uk

This place IS available despite the site indicating otherwise. It is a three bedroomed slate cottage high above Llanberis at the end of a very narrow lane. Recent works include a new, enlarged conservatory, a new kitchen, new flooring downstairs and a new bathroom. It always puts a smile on my face whenever I visit (two or three times a year) but it has it’s drawbacks. It is very isolated. parking is a pain. The place is difficult to find, even with Sat Nav. The lanes are ridiculously narrow in places. The furnishings are ‘dated’ to say the least. The log burner is out of action at the moment.

BUT- the view is stunning, you look out across the fields, quarries and Llyn Peris onto Snowdon. Llanberis lies far below. The garden is brilliant for kids to play in. Hide and seek-tastic. Dogs are allowed. You are right in the peaceful middle of the best part of the park. You can take a walk down, via the steam railway, to the wholly awesome slate museum and thence onwards to Llanberis itself. Pete’s Eats is pretty good but there are other (better) places too. Loads to do nearby, including some of North Wales’ best beaches, esp. Newborough Warren. Ynys Llandwyn is just so beautiful. A friend once spent a season living in the pilot’s cottages working for the RSPB.

If you are interested, give me a shout. I know the owner well. He’s not using Shaw’s anymore but hasn’t moved over to another agent yet, just word of mouth. Rates always seem good to me.
