    60 miles radius of Manchester

Not in the dales or peaks, but this may meet all other criteria, Cheshire Steam Fair.

Anson Steam Engine museum is just a few hundred yards away if you need even more, Lyme Park is a short walk up the hill from the festival

We’ll be riding over from Marple and having a picnic en route

Chatsworth obviously, but busy and expensive.

Someone on heresaid there was a decent small play area in Cromford – near the school?- loads of history, mills etc, canal side walk.

    Matlock has a decent park.

    Carsington reservoir, nice villages nearby?

    Crich Tramway Museum?

It’s Well Dressing season across Derbyshire. Ours this weekend. Keeping out the way, will be mental in decent weather

    Castleton. [/end of thread]

You’ve got caves, and rope-making, and a castle, and a stream, and a haunted pub…

Avoid carsington water and anywhere along the a6 between bakewell and cromford as it’ll be rammed!!!!
In fact how about Ashbourne, wander up Thorpe cloud? But then again that’ll be very busy too around the stepping stones….

binners hasn’t quite captured the full Speke Hall experience to be fair.

    It’s more like this.

NT or EH property is a bonus.

Haddon Hall (NT) is worth a look on the way back to the M1 (not that you’d be going that way), ’twas full of oiks on the lawn when we were there tho.

    Cheers,

How about The Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream Parlour…

Not far from Skipton, has a few great playgrounds (outside and in barns) that cater for different age groups and the food Is. To. Die. For.

Just noticed, no picnics allowed at the Parlour if you are set on one.

    Oi! Speke Hall is ace!

Woodland walk, big lawns and adventure playground for the kids. House and gardens for the missus, a picnic area and best of all aeroplanes for me to point at like a Yorkshireman.

Also, it is NT, so my entire tribe get in for nowt.
