Is it okay to do this?

It’s a SRAM 9sp chain, so is it safe to use 2 power links please?

    Thanks

I do on my tandem and haven’t noticed any problems (it’s 10spd)

As long as you use a power link you’ll be fine.

Assuming the chain is fairly new that is, otherwise the difference in wear will likely cause you some issues.

Relatively new chain. Thank you chaps 😀

I now have a suspicion that I’ve only got some 10sp powerlinks 😳

Is there a problem re-joining a chain using the standard pins if done carefully?

Nope. I bought a nearly new chain off here and it was too short. Some very kind people sent me some additional links and I used the standard pins to join. No issues at all.

Don’t push the original pin all the way out and you can use that. PowerLinks are weaker than normal pins IME.

I have two powerlinks on both my chains, no probs.

Cool, thanks for the replies chaps 😀

I have tried to join the chain using one of the original pins, but had problems aligning it, so figured that an additional powerlink would make my task easier and achievable 🙂

I’ve yet to break a powerlink, or chain for that matter so I must clearly put more effort in! 😉

Don’t do this. The riveting on the end of the pin has already broken off.

I’d leave a normal link inbetween the powerlinks.. Dunno why, but if I’ve done that then that’s what I’ve done. 🙂
